paulsaints1553552770 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I thick the Q under the hood is the same as the 1229, just a much lighter tonearm - originally designed to be quadraphonic sensitive. I probably will have a go at doing it myself, but, given past history, I am likely to damage something. My best learning method is to watch someone and then have a go myself. Perfect answer for me here would be someone who would enjoy demo-ing the process while I watch and get some hands on guidance. Long shot, but I would like the dual to survive - so many little plastic bits to break.
Peterloplop Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Any suggestions for fixing an Analogue Audio Enigma (amp, tuner, cd all-in-one with tube pre) and REL T2 in Auckland? The Enigma works for everything except sound to the speakers (headphone jack is fine) and the REL powers on but makes no sound from either input other than an initial thud on start up and the headsink gets very hot after a while. Thanks
Guest Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Gennady Lyskin/GennLab, Waikanae, North Island. Master repairer of domestic and professional sound equipment, Nakamichi and analogue specialist. He recently rebuilt the motor on my Technics SP10 turntable with excellent results. Highly recommended ! http://www.gennlab.com/index.html
St. Ouens Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 NAKAMICHI BX2 Tapedeck Can someone recommend a repairer for a general service/overhaul - noisy drive, not rewinding/fast forwarding etc. Thank you.
Owen Y Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Nak-Mad, are you lurking around here these days? http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2011/06/nakamichi-the-journey-part-two/
harlansmart Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Hi Team, Could someone please suggest a suitable repairer for these 2 Altea EX drivers, were given to me by Stephen Richardson, pity he's gone or I'd simply drive over to St Heliers! Thanks in advance, harlan
Owen Y Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 harlan - Mark Brumby (Audiomark) has been recommended - in Remuera, Akld - 529 5455. Let us know how things work out.
Owen Y Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 And there is always Axent Audio in New Lynn, Akld - but some report that repair times & communication can be variable.
Gryffles Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Anyone know of a tech or DIY'er in Tauranga that could look at a valve pre for me?
Gryffles Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Needs a general check over, chassis needs earthing and for some reason one channel has stopped working. All my stuff is in storage so can't do anything DIY atm
Owen Y Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Can you take a pic/s of the inside? Or a schematic? Is that the Air Tight?
Gryffles Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Not atm sorry Owen. All my gear is in storage in Hamilton and I'm in Tauranga. No, it's not the Air Tight thank goodness! VTL don't have or won't supply schematics for their gear of this vintage (1980's). Even the NZ importer confirmed this.
Owen Y Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Is that the VTL 2.5 - do I recall correctly?
Gryffles Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 VTL Super Deluxe - dual mono pre and phono mm/mc
Owen Y Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Dual mono? OK, first thing to try is swap tubes L-ch to R-ch - say 1 pair at a time - see if that brings any change.

Guest Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I have two quality cassette decks (late models with Dolby S). The Pioneer CT-95 plays well, but the door mechanism sometimes needs some persuasion to open. It is currently set up in my system and is in use for playback only from time to time. The Sony T-CK717ES (a 3 head model) stopped rewinding and fast forwarding and has been in storage last 5 years. Pulled it out yesterday, and the door is firmly jammed so not able to test it. Anyone know of potential repair services in Northland/Auckland or maybe Tauranga as I visit there from time to time? I am thinking about taking into Axent, but not sure if they still repair these.
Owen Y Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Martin Short would be a man who would know a bit about any cassette repairers - unfortunately, he hasn't posted for a while, but you may be able to track him down.... http://www.audioenz.co.nz/author/martin-short/
Guest Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 martin aka mr nakamichi put me onto a guy called gennady lyskin, he has lots of experience with cassette decks etc. he repaired martin's naks and my technics sp10/2 but he's far away from the op in waikanae a bit hardskinned but he tolerates audiophiles http://www.gennlab.com/index.html

Guest Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Hi Owen, I had assumed that Bruce aka stereoscope, only repaired turntables and amps. Thanks for that, as I will be visiting Bruce tomorrow (5th) to collect a turntable I have just bought off him. Will take the Sony with me and see how I can get on. John
