Guest Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Still on holiday in Tauranga, but dropped the Sony cassette deck off with Bruce of Stereoscope fame last Tuesday. He was surprised we still listened to cassette tapes! but said he could probably repair it, but would have to import belts from Overseas. He did say older cassette decks had better belts than the later models like ours, but the good thing was that the later models were easier to work on. Picked up my new second hand turntable at same time, a rareish Yamaha yp-d9, which Bruce reckons is better than an LP12 - will post pic and report when I have it home and set up later in week.
Owen Y Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Yamaha YP-D9 - Japan-only model I see, from the late 70s - early 80s, a golden era. Direct Drive I believe. Will be interested to hear about how it sounds. Tonearm looks magnificent, esp the VTA pillar design.
Guest Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Hi Owen, et al, have now set the turntable up at home, and have created a new post in the HIFi section.
Faz1553552778 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Can anybody recommend someone to setup/repair my pioneer pl-12r turntable? Preferably in Tauranga but I'm willing to travel a little. Thanks, Faz
Owen Y Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Faz - I can only suggest trying John Gilmore over in Hamilton - an electronic technician first & foremost, but may be suitable. Or Warren Turley in Taupo. See earlier info up in this thread. Maybe a ph call first.
Faz1553552778 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Thanks Owen, Is there anybody who specifically works on tt's? I'd rather take the risk and ship for the sake of getting it done properly. Thanks again.
Owen Y Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Perhaps enquire with: - Retrotronics - http://www.retrotronics.co.nz/detail&id=655 - GennLab - http://www.gennlab.com/turntables.html (as mentioned by MW above)
Guest Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Bruce at Retrotronics seems very busy at moment. Has posted to his website he cannot take any more repairs until August.
Guest Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Please contribute to this thread if you can recommend a repairer in your locality. Please try and keep it only to positive recommendations without it descending into a repairer bashing (we all know who we are talking about). 5
Guest Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I've had great experiences with CVE Electronics in Coburg, VIChttps://www.facebook.com/CveElectronics/ They've fixed traditional HiFi components and TVs for me over the years. Always been on time, fairly priced and very knowledgeable. They've also declined a job when they felt they could not achieve a desirable outcome. 4
betty boop Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I've always found good service with JLS electronics in Doncaster in melbourne, who i have used to service a variety of gear over the years. they also do warranty service for a whole bunch of brands as well which is pretty handy, you know its being done to manufacturer spec to bring back to new, whether hifi or av gear never been problem. http://www.jls.net.au 4
Darren69 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Trevor at Rage Audio. http://www.rageaudio.com.au/ He will take a while but the end product is done properly. Highly recommended, he is very passionate about all things amplifier. 5 1
Guest jakeyb77 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I have shipped a few things to @@Zaphod Beeblebrox and been more than happy with the results and information given.
betty boop Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I dont think should be hesitant to talk to actual importer/distributor in the country as well, eg I've also lately on a couple of occasions found qualifi themselves to be very good in service as importers/distributors of brands they support. e.g. denon and marantz gear to be specific. http://qualifi.com.au with rega and cambridge products I cannot more highly recommend synergy audio...really go out of the way http://www.synergyaudio.com there are some good hifi retailers which provide some in-house service as well and Tivoli comes front of mind with this, https://www.tivolihifi.com
Guest jakeyb77 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Had a valve done by Tony Mackay who does work out of Tivoli. Very happy with result.
Cafad Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 When I was up in Townsville I had several dealings with TES on Ingham road. Never had the chance to meet the guys out the back but I was always happy with the result, they were always pretty busy so it could take 2 to 3 weeks to get a repair performed but once it was fixed it stayed that way, no returns necessary. http://www.tesc.com.au/
