While I was visiting Korea went to one of the underground shopping centers full of used record stores.

Went into one of the bigger stores.  The below photo only shows less than 1/4th of what the store had..   So many to choose from, like having discogs catalog in front of me... 🙂   more amazing thing was that this was one of more than 30 similar stores in the shopping center... Just wish has more spare time to browse... 😞

Bought a few as I was planning on going there a few more times but time didn't permit and hence only got below.. all mint or better condition 🙂

I know which place in Seoul you are referring to for all those records shops as I pass through this place every time I go to Seoul at least twice a year. I know it is in Korean, but there is a kind of documentary uploaded on YouTube about a records shop who took over from his father in law and carry on his legacy with love plus how he source out the records overseas. If I find it from YouTube I can put a link for you to watch if you don't mind but it's in Korean.

Wow that’s one record store you can get lost in for weeks . Only wish it was in English.

You can turn sub title on then go to setting to change to english or other languages.

Just now via Discogs, Joe Walsh "Barnstorm" NM 1978 German reissue (Sonopress)....but under the name 'Pop Gold', a 'club edition' budget release of the same album. Hence, a lot cheaper!🥰

Great Album Steve. You always manage to put a smile on my face.

Stereonet wouldn’t be the same without the certainty of a post from you on what you have purchased today. Your collection must be quite expansive.

keep it up, as I’m sure you will.

All the best

John😊

Thanks John. It's definitely expanding, let's say that.....especially since I gave up the brown (and green) weeds a year ago! Way more money for LP's, a much healthier hobby👍.....but I'm sure my collection pales against many 'Stereo Netters' collections.🙂

Arrived from China this morning. Brass turntable mat. Considering how it was packed it is amazing it arrived flat. Single layer record size outer, placed in a plastic bag. Had a win though, it is dead flat.

Sellers comments, “ The brass turntable mat can resist static electricity, reduce resonance, increase friction to make background more purer, more detail, cleaner and richer sound “

Not sure if any of these claims are true? I will take it for a drive later and report back. It dose make the turntable look pretty when not in use.😂

The mats I used for testing were, 1. Normal run of the mill rubber mat, 2, Cork mat, 3. New Brass mat.

Records used for comparison were, 1, Miles Davis, Kind of Blue, 2. Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon, 30th Anniversary Edition, 3. Milt Jackson Sextet, Invitation, 4, Antonio Vivaldi, The Four Seasons.

My testing was just to determine whether I could actually hear a positive difference compared to the rubber and Cork.

For the Comparison I only used the A side of each record.

Firstly let me say, I do have MS, however God has blessed me with good hearing, which I am very grateful for.🙏

After listening to all four records, and one more which I will talk about at the end of this comparison.

To my ears, the brass mat did sound better over all four recordings. Was it a huge difference, No. Somewhere between 3 to 5% but noticeable nevertheless. In this hobbie I would consider any improvement worth trying.

I was not expecting a difference at all, so to me 3 to 5% was a noticeable improvement.
Did the Brass mat live up to the sellers claims? Did it resist static electricity, I would say no. Did it reduce resonance, hard to say as I already use substantial measures to reduce resonance, so I heard no difference. Did it reduce background noise, not to my ears, Did it produce a cleaner, richer more detailed sound, yes absolutely, somewhere between 3 to 5 % over the four records played.

As I mentioned i do have a certain record I play to determine detail. Shelby Lynn, “Just a little lovin.” On track 7 “ Willie and Lauramae Jones “ During the track she says “ get over here junior “ he then plays a brief guitar riff, she then says

“ yeah Dave “ again an even more brief guitar solo. Shelby then throws what sounds like dice across the floor, straight after that she throws what sounds like her car keys on the floor. With the rubber mat, and the cork mat the keys can be heard, but not as clear as the dice. With the brass mat, the sound of the keys were absolutely as clear as the dice.
To summarise, in my opinion, the brass mat definitely produces cleaner and a more detailed sound. Will it make a poor recording sound better, don’t think so, a poor recording will always be that. Thats just as my Rega P9 heard it. I understand every turntable will display different characteristics.

In conclusion for the total cost of around $140. Definitely worth a try.

I have done this comparison to determine if I could hear any difference.

To my ears yes. However everyone hears things differently, so I am not pushing my views on anyone. So please just take it as that, just my opinion.

John😊

Nothing eclectic here, just your run of the mill Huey Lewis classic 80's. Good companion to their Sports album
