stevoz Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 Took the plunge tonight in my quest for my 'end game sound system'....step one, AMPLIFIER. Purchased from Japan via ebay, a used, perfect condition 2017 Luxman L-505uXII Mark II Integrated Amplifier for about half it's original retail price. I'm shaking right now but I have drooled over and dreamed of owning one of these for years. I have come a full circle, my second ever amp back in 1978 (but first long term amp) was a Luxman L3 (following the short ownership of a Rotel amp that had clipping issues). Will have to get a 240v to 100v step sown transformer for this one. Speaker upgrade will be next. Any opinions on Fyne Audio F502 Speakers? 8 2
macguffin Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 (edited) A blast from the past as they used to say. Wings Band on The Run. Half speed master of an album I have always enjoyed. If you want to demonstrate how good vinyl can sound to anyone, this pressing will do it. I have a great original pressing but this is possibly the best example of everything that we love about this media. I even sat through Bluebird, which is a song I really have never liked, but the whole album just sounds sooo good. I am seriously impressed and I'm sure Sir Paul would be pleased to know ...... See you around the Luxman owner's thread Regarding the Fynes @Philharmonic ? AFAIK you can listen to them at audio influence in 3068. 1 1

If you want to be serious about a step-down which will allow your amp to perform well ... I would suggest a 1KVA step-down is in order. (Which won't exactly be cheap!) 4 minutes ago, stevoz said: Speaker upgrade will be next. Any opinions on Fyne Audio F502 Speakers? They are rated at 8 ohms - so, given their impedance curve doesn't seem to be available ... they should be fine. But I would suspect the F502s will deliver more with a more powerful amp. 2

Any opinions on Fyne Audio F502 Speakers? @stevoz Congrats on securing a very nice amplifier... and there seems to be a growing concensus in hifi circles that a Luxman / Fyne pairing produces a "Fyne" synergy indeed. I would certainly endorse @Steff 's suggestion to contact Graham at Audio Influence to audition the Fyne F-502's. They're a fun listen with big room-filling sound and quite good level of detail, separation, soundstage and nuance. Your listening space measures in your signature indicate you (potentially) have the area to bring out the best in Fyne's bigger speakers (F-502, F-702 etc). I didn't see a pair of the F-502's there on my visit last week, but Graham is an obliging bloke who can get any of the range in at reasonably short notice for audition by appointment. I'd recommend the piano gloss finish for the few extra $s (they look more hi-end in this finish). What I'm pretty sure is still there in Graham's shop is a pair of the F-501SP and I know for certain the F-502SP is there connected to a beautiful Italian Audio Analog integrated. Whilst the SP versions will set you back a couple of $K more, they're certainly worth it in terms of build quality (all the SP range is built in Scotland, not China) and increased performance. You might even prefer the F-501SP over the F-502's for a modestly higher outlay? Give Graham a call on Ph: (03) 7068 7678 and tell him Phil sent ya! All the best in your speaker hunt... Be Quiet...Listen Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Haven't been able to comprehend the fascination with Taylor Swift. To each their own! Pulled the trigger on a decent lot last night. Both Bill Evans UHQR's, Patricia Barber's Companion Impex 1 Step, Impex's limited to 1000 Ellington Indigos, Eagles The Long Run Mofi 1 Step (last one to complete the collection), Johnny Cash Mofi At Folsom Prison & two Shin Joong Hyun LP's. Fun times ahead! 4 1

Purchased from Japan via ebay, a used, perfect condition 2017 Luxman L-505uX Mark II Integrated Amplifier for about half it's original retail price. The seller of the above amp offered to sell me a 1500W 240 to 100V stepdown transformer at a reasonable price, so I accepted......so this transaction was going along fine until he asked for another $US 170 for postage due to the addition of this product to the amp package (which was advertised with free shipping!). I refused with a "fair go mate" explanation....and he relented. Lo and behold, I get a message today saying "We regret to inform you that we have found a serious defect in the product you ordered. We sincerely regret that we are unable to sell this defective product to our customers." WTF?! He then gave an alternative offer of a much older L505f amp at the same price. I of course rejected this offer and requested a full refund. Seriously, this 'defect' sounded very suss to me. Dejected, I searched again.....and found a just listed brand new example, again from Japan, with a discount coupon which took the price down to $110 less than I paid for the first, 7 year old one. Celebrations ensued.....and I snapped it up You can be lucky sometimes. Edited August 2, 2024 by stevoz 7 2

hlov Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Only another Latin-American person will know what is this . I hope it sounds good, all Studio albums of the Argentinian band Soda Stereo, they were huge in the 80s. 4
