mirrorman Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 (edited) A bit of a mix - HEART Dream Boat Annie , Harry Owens (love 50s Hawaiian music albums) 3 XY promo - celebrating ROCK (3XY was a popular local rock radio station in the 70s) KHRUANGBIN - smooth music .. not sure how to describe this 3 piece band. You have to hear it. Bert Kaempfert - the classic Wonderland By Night album (another copy of) .. recorded on valve equipment and sounds great of valve equipment. The grandaddy of EXOTICA Martin Denny - PRIMITIVA .. you have to hear this music to believe it , I love it. Edited September 3, 2024 by mirrorman 3

stevoz Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 On @Wilson71's recommendation, Alan Parsons Project "I Robot" MOFI 2 × LP, 45 RPM limited edition, numbered remastered reissue. Prior to recently buying a UK 1st pressing of this after seeing The 'In' Groove youtube channel's recommendations, I had checked out the two higher ranked versions, 2004's Classic Records single disc reissue remastered by BG but it was going for silly money (and still is).....and the rankings winner, this Mofi. At that time it was going for fairly silly money as well....but today, a well priced brand new copy was available on Discogs.....so snap. This is one of my favourite ever albums so I don't mind having three copies, now including the best sounding one! A timely reminder indeed Wilson! 7 3

You're going to love it. It's a match made in heaven. Alan Parsons mastering (you won't find better), and 45RPM Mofi. One of my favourite artists. It's just too bad the later albums aren't held in such high esteem, as I'd love to see a 2x45 of Stereotomy and in particular Gaudi which is one of my favourite APP albums. I just received the super deluxe box set of Pyramid with a hand signed album cover from Alan Parsons himself. I'm going to wait until the house is empty before I open that one. I want to really savour it. The 2x 45RPM Mofi of Eye In The Sky is a good one too, but I think I Robot pips it for sound quality. 1

Stereotomy and Gaudi were the last two APP albums I bought, Stereotomy last year and Gaudi this year (in June). I love Stereotomy and was embarrassed it took me so long to get it. It is an SQ winner indeed.....a MOFI or Speakers Corner edition would be great. Gaudi I like but have only listened to it twice so far.....will have to play it again soon.....oh and the Oz 1st pressing of "Turn Of A Friendly Card' for comparison to the SC version of course! I saw that boxed set of Pyramid, impressive.....enjoy. I will be interested to see what you think of it. I only got the Cooking Vinyl single LP half speed mastered 33.3rpm edition on clear vinyl.....but really excited for it's arrival, hopefully soon! Out of interest, do you have 'The Time Machine' by Parsons only (not the Project) and if so, worth getting? Edited September 4, 2024 by stevoz 1

Yes I’ve got that one. I’m a bit of an Alan Parsons tragic so I’ve got all his stuff. I’ve been a perma-fan since I got the flexi disc of Eye In The Sky (the promo mix single) when I was on holidays back in the UK in 1982. They were handing them out on the covers of comic books if I recall correctly. Sirius had me hooked in 5 seconds, and that was that. The Time Machine title track is pretty good (From Austin Powers) but I think “Try anything once” is a little stronger of an Album. Gaudi is brilliant. Every single track. idiotek Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Finally arrived today (although it had a slight crease on the cover)… looking forward to listening to it tonight 3 1
Almaz Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 I picked this up from a friend. Certainly not what I I was expecting. I thought nice soft duets. Anything but. This is probably one of the most sonically appealing albums that I played for a little while. Every cover is changed dramatically from the original. The highlight for me “ One for My Baby, One more for the Road” Highly recommended album. I included the bar code if you wish to look it up. 5

Almaz Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) Andy you are absolutely right. After listening to this album several times now, I can see how it would be a great test record. I think once you have cleaned it and play it, you will be pleasantly surprised. This is one out of the box. This album in my opinion is a heck of a lot more than a smaltyz jazz record , that s for sure. Apologies Shane. Edited September 5, 2024 by Almaz 1 1
stevoz Posted September 7, 2024 Author Posted September 7, 2024 (edited) I was destined to buy this album, released yesterday. The The "Ensoulment", first new album from them in a quarter of a century. Not sure where this is pressed, Discogs info scarce atm. Time has mellowed Matt and the bands music (not his lyrics though) but it is unmistakably The The. Edited September 8, 2024 by stevoz 5
Guest Moon 600i V2 Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 (edited) I picked up clean Japanese pressings of Countdown To Ecstasy, Katie Lied, and Royal Scam instead of going the UHQR route after getting the UHQR of Gaucho which to me is not worth the money. These JDM pressings sound excellent to me. I also wanted to get an OG Orange UK pressing of Abraxas but my copy, advertised as NM, sounds like it was played with a ceramic cartridge weighted down by a silver dollar although it looks mint. Luckily I have a mint MoFi Abraxas so my quest will end here. From now on I'll stick with new copies of LPs that I can return, as a partial refund is useless to me when the product was the prize. stevoz Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 A search on Discogs for a copy of the first album on this list of purchases lead me to a trusted Swedish seller, known to me for well priced well graded LP's with super fair postage on multiple orders......which in turn lead to the following 7 NM LP's for $95. Yes thanks! Billy Idol "Whiplash Smile" NM Swedish 1st pressing. Skyhooks "Ego Is Not A Dirty Word" NM Dutch 1st pressing. Sniff 'n' the Tears "Ride Blue Divide" NM Swedish 1st pressing. Debbie Harry "KooKoo" NM UK 1st pressing.....and another HR Giger (Alien) cover design. Pat Benatar "Live From Earth" NM Swedish 1st pressing. Have often almost bought some of Pat's albums but never did. A live 'best of' should do. Judie Tzuke "Sports Car" NM Dutch 1st pressing M "The Official Secrets Act" NM US 1st pressing. 5 1
