I saw a youtube video on TT 'upgrades' and this product was mentioned, the "Stein Music’s The Perfect Interface Carbon Signature turntable mat" but it costs anywhere between $400 - $600. FFS! Then this was mentioned as an alternative that gives almost as good results and is virtually the same but that costs around $Au70-80, the "TEAC TA-TS30UN-BW Washi Turntable Sheet". I thought that this on my stock mat (or maybe on it's own with the VTA lowered.....it's 1mm thick) would be better than spending $300 on the SL1200 Achromat, so I bought one.

Here is a 'CoPilot' AI summary of the 'Washi' that convinced me it was worth a try:

The TEAC TA-TS30UN-BW Washi Turntable Sheet has received positive feedback for its ability to enhance the listening experience on vinyl records. Here are some key points from various reviews:

1. Sound Quality Improvement: Users have noted an improvement in soundstage depth, separation, and overall realism when using the TEAC mat. It is particularly praised for its tighter bass and better image stability.

2. Material and Design: The mat is made from two layers of Japanese washi paper, sourced from mulberry, with a stone paper core. This design helps in reducing static and dust on records.

3. Dual-Sided Use: The mat has two sides, each offering a different sound profile. The grey side is generally preferred for its tighter bass and image stability, while the white side has a warmer mid-bass but can introduce a plasticky edge to high frequencies.

4. Affordability: At around $US30, it is considered a cost-effective upgrade for vinyl enthusiasts, especially when compared to more expensive alternatives.

Fremer concluded his review of the 'TEAC Washi': "I was skeptical too, but this really could be the best $30 (USD) you’ll ever spend on your turntable setup."

Anyone out there using one of these?

The server won't let me upload a 1.3mb jpeg but I finally got Richard Hawley's Coles Corner on LP from the UK. Bin diving gifted me with Alan White's Ramshackled and XTC's Oranges and Lemons. My record flattener came into use and all is good. Happy hunting!

This sounds really cool, I’ll have to check this out, I’ve got a bunch of this paper for artwork, and it’s got a beautiful texture… would love to hear your thoughts once you form an opinion…

Save your money. Unless you are chasing that last 5% of SQ, you're good. I bought the UHQR of Gaucho and it is not $150.00 better than my Robert Ludwig 33.3. I have the Cisco pressing of Aja and find it more than satisfactory. I bought OG Japanese pressings of the rest of the SD catalog and I'm not moving on from there. When you find yourself in a rabbit hole, stop digging.

I remember in my youth ,having a really nice stereo ,an AR turntable ,shure v15 ,souncraftsman pre ,and a h and h power amp ,running ESS AMT 1, the pleasure I got out of that system would be unmeasurable !
my system today , I have gone back to a moving iron cart ,

Which is the only link with the past ,

and now with age related hearing I am again enjoying my music ,

I played all those years ago,

a time when the pressing plant ,where the record was pressed ,and if it was a early stamper ,

didn’t matter to almost anyone ,

below one of my all time faves

doug parkinson in focus  …EP

a record I’ve owned from new ,

$1.49 at my local record shop

That is even funnier - is this back in the day when they used to have Pix People magazines in the newsagents & The Sun Page 3 girls?  🤣

Indeed you are right, here is the Aussie 1971 pressing 🐦

Back in the 70's they prevented the import record shops from bringing this album into Australia because of the cover. Soon after the record was pressed locally....with the same cover. 😄

But initially not with the words 'Legalize it' on show......here's my copy, an Oz reissue from later in the release year.....now loud and proud!
