I have a flattener, but often don't need to use it. Plus also enjoying the advantage(s) of using them. 1

Hiya, I chucked my mofi TT weight which I don’t use a lot these days and it didn’t ( unsurprisingly?) do much. A lot of the warp on the Yello album seems to be at the outer edges , then gets less as it goes in. 2

Obviously there are heavy mass weights, like l believe that the mofi is - but I've had better success with screw clamp on like the Mitchell that has a felt washer that slips under the record. That is much more effective at flattening, plus coupling the LP. As this thread is related to analog purchases, l got this Joni Mitchell One step recently and overall very good pressing. 2 1

Annoying to use ... certainly has a beneficial effect ("flywheel") but adds weight to the platter - which means (unless you have an air bearing or a "maglev collar" like my 'Tranquility') that there's more force = wear, on the end of the spindle. That's why flattening the LP is the good option.
April Snow Posted Thursday at 10:15 AM Posted Thursday at 10:15 AM Yeah sounds easier and less fuss just to get it flattened 1

Almaz Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Yesterday opp shop find. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was walking out when I noticed the usual half empty box which I had been through on numerous occasions was abnormally full. This is what I picked out at $1 a record. after the mandatory Record clean and sleeve wipe down, I was very happy with the mornings work and purchase. 2 3

That 1981 comp is excellent - a lovely maxicut that one - I enjoy it in my collection 1
