Might be getting my hands on a TEAC a-7300 RTR in the next few days. I know nothing about RTRs so would appreciate any opinions/ info on this machine.

Cheers

Check the heads. If there's any obvious wear, it's probably past it.

It would appear to be a 1/4 track machine, so stereo in one direction, flip the tape over, and stereo in the other direction. The 1/4 track Teac machines are 'low speed', so 3.75 or 7.5 IPS (inches per second). On a good unit, 7.5 IPS sounds great.

If they're in good nick they sound pretty good. They're a pretty big old machine, something like an A-3300 is a neater package with everything you need, but if the A-7300 is the right price ($200 or less and no issues) then go for it.

The A-7300 takes 10 inch reels which is great, anything less is a toy.

Casstape in Melbourne are good if you want new tape (you need new tape).

I have five A-3300's (three 1/4 track and two 1/2 track) and really like them, playing a 1/2 track of Avalon right now, very nice!

Cheers,

Jason.

I've got the machine as part of a whole system deal. Haven't touched it yet. Thanks for the feedback. M

All the manuals should be available at hifiengine, but if you have trouble just give me a shout.

Cheers,

Jason.
