Mining Man Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 We've had What are you listening to? and What are you watching? It's Saturday night and we've got Ms MM's sister, brother-in-law and niece down from Auckland for the night. And I'm about to tuck into something from the spirits box (no cabinet for us, a box in the corner is juuuust fine). Hmm, Gin? Vodka? Whiskey (Scotch or Bourbon)? Rum? Any suggestions? Maybe I should have made this a poll. COO-EE MELLO!!!! (Save Winky!!)

mello yello Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I gave up drinking a while ago. Tonight?...ALDI lemonade ..not a bad drop compared to that Schweppes crap to wash down a slice of mud cake with vanila ice cream topped with a couple of ripe strawberries.....ahh married life I also got conservative with age Aloy..you think Im an anti this anti that now?...Aii Caramba ....but when I did patronise the drinking establishments it was bottled beer (Crown, Heineken, Elephant or Hahn) ..followed by a few JDs with coke..which soon became JD with ice...and ending up with JD straight.....washed down at certain times of the evening by some Black Sambuca (Opal Nera)(is there any other Sambuca) .....sometimes flaming ..mostly just straight down. Happy Hours would consist of Stollies Vodka (2 parts) with Khalua (1 part) ...over ice I dont miss it save : winkÿ:
Mining Man Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Well it was gin in the end. Shaken with ice and a dash of vermouth, and served up with an olive. Or three. A couple of those and all is good!!! Happy Saturday all!! hic (Save Winky!!)

I started pretty damned late so didn't go thru all those excesses that younger folks can go thru. Being the heart bypass person that I am, I have the license from my Cardiologist - top guy - to partake of reasonable doses of the El Vino Rosso. That implies reasonable

Mcrackn Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 What do you mean anymore? Your barely legal drinking age..how long have you been drinking? Not how long, it's how much when I do I think I've done enough embarrassing things and stupid things to last me a lifetime.
johndee Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 It's rained! Might as well drink it while it's still here. It might get to you city slickers otherwise. JB
Steve C Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I think I've done enough embarrassing things and stupid things to last me a lifetime. Depends on how you look back on 'em. Some of the things that happened to me when I was in art school in my late teens, could be seen as stupid or embarrassing. The sort of stuff that ends up being storylines for movies like 'American Pie'. Stuff like the offer from the 45yr old head teacher to be paid with a full set of oil paints to have sex with the head teacher's 19yr old wife, whilst being photographed. The photographs would then be used to make a series of paintings the head teacher was working on about 'the journey from girl to woman'. Now call me stupid, but I decided against increasing my oil paint inventory. I'm not sure which was the greater embarrassment - knowing that we all knew who had; or who hadn't... I replay stuff like that back in my mind now; and it's something that I treasure because I realise how unique an experience the bizarre stuff like that, which happened to me or around me back then, truly was. What I'm drinking right now is some el-cheapo sweet cask white lambrusco. As embarrassing as that is, our cheap Aussie whites are better than some more expensive Italian wines, and quite eminently drinkable. Bottoms up!
