How was the Granjoux? Live up to the hype for such a young vineyard, albeit an over the top one.

I would say yeah.

Some context though. I had a bottle of the 2022 Savaterre on Thursday night and it was amazing.

The Granjoux was not quite to that level, however, it has some magic happening, it was quite beguiling.

It was enjoyed by all last night, and I do wish I had more, alas no. 😋

Beechworth make incredible chardy. Some of the best in the country. Keppel’s Savaterre is a favourite for sure. Domenica,  Fighting Gully Road and Rodda for cheaper yet great options. And of course Sentio, made by a great guy Chris Catlow who is rising to the top in my view.

Tempted to try this:

Brew Dog Elvis Juice: an IPA with a touch of grapefruit

< Why is it called Elvis Juice? According to BrewDog this beer is “the absolute king in a world of wannabes”, hence the mention of the king himself. Drinkers can expect intense US hop aromas, combined with gigantic grapefruit notes along with orange and pine. >

$14.95 for 4 x 375ml at Aldi

https://www.aldi.com.au/special-buys/special-buys-liquor/liquor-detail/ps/p/brewdog-elvis-juice-grapefruit-infused-ipa-4-x-375ml-1/

Elvis has left the building (well, almost…. one can remaining). Dangerously quaffable!

(don't hold on to Pinot too long...).

Yeah, I think that now.  It's taken me a while to realise.

Due to the number of wines in the cellar and the drinking/replacement rates, I tend to drink reds at an average 10 years and whites a bit younger.  Now looking at drinking Pinot at say 5 - 7 years rather than the 10ish.

Yep. Good wine overshadowed by their straight Grenaches which keeps it better value.

I had a very small hand in processing the 2018 pinots from Curly Flat. I variously sterilised a few dozen used barrels in readiness, pumped from tank to barrel, purged-and-cleaned the pump too. But only because I needed the pump to move our own (non-Curly-Flat) Shiraz from press to tank on the same day so agreed to help-out to get the use of the plant and equipment needed that they have kindly allowed us to use along with barrel hall space. I cannot claim any part in the quality of their 2018 vintage - I was just a pump-monkey 😄

Not sure that Central or Western will be produced in the next vintage or not. There is some thought going on about general product direction and a different approach and even maybe some pondering on a different differentiated flagship Pinot Noir. We'll see what transpires as 2025 vintage gets going in a few weeks and what expression comes from the whole process.

Nothing ever stands still in the industry. It is a never-ending fascination.

Quite enjoyed two cellared reds over the long weekend.  A 9-year-old and a 7-year-old.

The 2016 Rioja was brought along by the guest that joined us for the lamb roast on Saturday night.

And that inspired me to open the Stratford Shiraz on Sunday.

Some amazing bubbles from Tassie and a chance to try out some new glasses.

Kinda like cable testing, veils were lifted, details were revealed, more money was spent.😆

Generous mate gave me a 2021 bottle of this Grampians shiraz.

Black and Ginger Lilly's Block

classy wine this!

https://blackandginger.com.au/products/2022-lilys-block-shiraz

< The fruit for Lily's Block comes from our very own certified organic vineyard, Hounds Run, ensuring the highest quality and care in every bottle. This Shiraz is made using 100% whole bunch fermentation, adding an extra layer of spice to the wine. Lily's Block Shiraz offers lifted aromas of blackberry, cacao, and spice, enticing your senses from the first pour. The palate is rich and juicy, with flavours of black fruits that linger on the finish. >

and indeed it is as they say!

Those "mystery" wines from Winestar are so easy to identify, a little cut and paste and Bob's your uncle!

No doubt winery's policy "strictly no identification" but hey... we're the winners!
