Cloth Ears Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Super delish with some leftovers (turkey and salad). Bonus, there's one left for next year! 9
aechmea Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Another Pinot (sort of). Hunter characteristics tend to overshadow all else; IMO. But interesting nevertheless that these were the first Pinot vines brought to Aus. The straight Pinot is "Mothervine" in recognition of its ancestry; but it's not very Pinot-ish either. 6
Mendes Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Kicking things off with some MR and Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. A pal and I pick a wine most Fridays and do a review (for our own amusement) and see how close we get to each other. I like the Burnside, and 18.8 for me. Now waiting to see how he sees it. All a bit of fun. Anyway, a good start to the late afternoon. 7

Barossa Cab Sav was amazing, go figure. sadly, last bottle. Tscharke wines fly under the radar but worth hunting down and cellar very well. 7

Vin rouge Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Friday night with family up for the weekend. Poured some whites wines from my mates at Garagiste and Sentio, followed by one of Mornington’s best Pinots and a Para port that was in amazing shape. Dark chocolate and still had years - could barely believe it. 6
mtf Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Continuing with the Pinot session, this has held up really well. 6
Cloth Ears Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Saw this at the local, on special. Fan of Dwayne Johnson, but not so much his tequila. I mean, it's not offensive, or bad tasting, but there's no smokiness and although it has some fruit, citrus and vegetal flavours...there's definitely not much. If you mixed it with something, you'd lose anything from the tequila. 5

And some of the sotols we've had, with their spices and bite are just fantastic (if you can find Senor Sotol, made from three different types of Sotol, your taste buds and wallet will thank you). 1 1

mtf Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Last Pinot for the week, what a beautiful drink it is, and this Pinot Meunier Champagne is drop dead gorgeous. Hibachi Yakitori and beef Tataki for munching. No complaints here 7

I was going to drop off a 3kg box for you but you have saved me the trip. I’ve discovered the 3 kg boxes are a blend of both timbers and 4 boxes is same price but 2kg more Binchotan He is a nice bloke, very helpful and has a rather tasty vintage B&O system in his office. I am pairing Yakitori with a 2020 amphora Chenin from the lovely Jo Perry from Margs. This sauce is absolutely worth tracking down too, I can’t believe it’s so hard to find locally but worth the effort. 1 1
aechmea Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Weeks up; last Pinot. Can't have too much of a good thing. Really dark colour. Unusual palate. Quite "different". Vanilla/floral oak? Edited February 24 by aechmea 3
aechmea Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Mrs A has a sore throat and a cough. She reckons it's better than cough mixture. Different blend put together by a guest panel of "sommeliers". A bit sweeter than normal Edited February 24 by aechmea 2
