A couple from last week caught up in the befuddle.

Both 2018 Hunter single vineyard; just a coincidence; not planned.

Both low in alcohol and both low in acid; a cloudy/wet/dull year maybe?

Found this the other day. Really good, smoky, lots of flavour and not too sweet. I keep meaning to try to see how it goes with cheese or food...but the glass sems to have a hole in it!!!

As these were so good, I ordered a couple of cases from Blackman's, along with another 'smoked' one (untasted as yet). A lot of their other stuff appears to be the weird, fruity stuff that proliferates today - but I'm going to have to visit next time we stay in Airey's Inlet!

Solid bottle of Etna Rosso lastnight at Pitzi pasta bar in Hobart. Offshoot of nearby Fico, the place was packed on a Tuesday night.

Just got home from a quick overnight trip to Margaret River.

We did a micro tasting at Windows Estate, which is producing amazing wines and are somehow flying under the radar. Some of the best in the region and still at relatively reasonable prices.

Had to bring home some Cab's and some Chardonnay. :party

The Oakridge wines were consumed at Miki's Open Kitchen in MR, highly recommended but book way in advance, even for a Tuesday night. The 864's rocked 🙏

❤️ Mikis @Mendes

Another night, another wine bar. This time top Hobart restaurant Dier Makr’s  casual, walk-in only bar Lucinda.

A Mornington Pinot Gris very much on the Natty side and an excellent French Gamay.

Petaluma's second Chardonnay.

I prefer it to the Yellow Label which seems too austere and woody (for me).  And at 1/2 of the price, well ....

Lunch at Home Hill in the Huon Valley. Gill enjoying a glass of ‘23 Kelly’s Reserve PN. A big and opulent Pinot that had no problems matching our Steak and Pork mains. Needless to say a few bottles on their way home to the Gong.

I always like to pop that on the list if anyone asks me for recommendations on any upcoming MR trips.

They do tend to sell out pretty quickly so timing is a factor.

The Chenin bubbles are a treat too!

I got on the mailing list, so may get the fancy chardonnay to try, we shall see.

What I tried and was able to purchase was very good ✌️

another French pinot noir that won't break the bank, this pleasantly surprised me, especially the price

Pays D'Oc

$17.99

< Dark red core with black shaded edges and a red to dark red hue. Ripe cherry, strawberry and plum aromas intermix with clove, earth and spice notes. Richly fruited and juicy, dark cherry, ripe plum and strawberry flavours are featured over a dried herb and spicy earth back drop. Fleshy mouth feel with fine grained and a generous medium to long finish. >

their  syrah grenache looks promising too

2023 Les Peyrautins Syrah Grenache (93/100 Nicks)

Pays D'Oc

$17.99

https://www.nicks.com.au/products/2023-les-peyrautins-syrah-grenache

< Deep midnight black core with a vibrant dark red hue. Pronounced blackberry and liquorice aromas fill the nostrils followed by some black raspberry, scorched earth and subtle peppered dried herb notes. Rich and juicy the mid weighted palate is awash with blackberry, liquorice and black raspberry fruits. Slightly chewy tannins with some scorched earth and pepper elements the undercard. Concludes long and succulent. >

If you find yourself in Tassie make sure you get yourself to Agrarian Kitchen in New Norfolk. I’ll just post some booze pics but rest assured the food is first class as well.                                                       Highlights: Banda Cider from the Huon Valley. Sorrenberg SSB.  2014 Pooley Pinot Noir. Lots of Two Metre Tall goodness.
