They were uttered by a respected and seasoned winemaker when discussing what lies ahead for Beaujolais. Uttered without intent to inflame, nevertheless, uttered as a statement of fact, with palpable conviction behind each syllable. From where he stands, the gilded Domaines up in the Côte d’Or face a predicament: few mortals can afford to think about the wines, let alone drink them. Just down the autoroute, conveniently tucked between Mâconnais and Lyon, nestles a region for whom expensive is a bottle selling for more than single figure euros. I’m not being facetious. NEAL MARTIN While we love the affable nature of great Beaujolais Village, the real magic of this underrated corner of Burgundy lies in the cru wines which span across 10 villages. Here you will find wines that echo their distinctive terroirs in much the same way as their neighbours in the Cote. Perfumed Volnay, bright and elegant Chambolle and rich and powerful Gevrey can be echoed in the wines from Fleurie, Cote de Brouilly and Morgon respectively, and at a fraction of the cost. These wines exist in their own paradigm however. It's a far cry from the millionaire row of Grand Cru vineyards along the Routes des Grand Crus. Here, the wines, people and food are far more humble and down to earth and that continues to keep the quality-to-price ration here very much in our favour. Join us for an in-depth look at the wonderful cru wines of Beaujolais through the wines of some of the region's finest producers. AccuTidal Posted Thursday at 01:56 PM Posted Thursday at 01:56 PM I’m excited to hop on the Thursday bandwagon! I picked this gem up from Cellar One, and despite its youthful exuberance, it offers a delightful taste that’s truly charming. 4

I'm presently ripping Cd's at my desk and can't be bothered grabbing a photo. The traditionalist Rioja Gran Riservas are not for everyone, mostly secondary flavour and aroma characters with a soft and supple tannin backbone enveloped by fragrant yet proportional American oak. There is a calibration reset required. If we are talkin hi fi we are in the 5 wpc valve world of soft, warm, yet gorgeous presentation. Complexity, depth and soul. Relatively cheap as chips in the excess of post COVID fine wine. Mendes, you will not like this. Avoid. I warned you that Barolo and Barbaresco are terrible and looked what happened. There is also a very good Riserva that is a little easier to get to grips with. There is also a very good Riserva that is a little easier to get to grips with. You mean like this one DC? It may get a test run later today 4 1

chaddy Posted Friday at 08:42 AM Posted Friday at 08:42 AM A very tasty Shiraz/Sangiovese blend from Lark Hill. I can only think of one other similar blend in Aus from Pizzini. May be more out there 4

Geez, this is very good @DRC!! Mad bang for buck and must go back for more. Mrs M will be loving this later when she gets to it. 2016 and still fresh as a daisy- go figure. Thanks DC 1
DRC Posted Saturday at 07:21 AM Posted Saturday at 07:21 AM Jeez, its dark days when I'm drinking wine from WA (just kidding, and poking fun at our WA SNAer's). Duke's Chatsfield Syrah 2022 (Mt Barker), classic spice and white pepper enveloping ripe but not jammy red fruits, there is a decent lick of classy new oak and plenty of structure to ensure cellaring for 10 years. Delicious. 5
