Darren69 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Hullo all, any suggestions/opinions on these? Hopefully backed by experience. Am looking at something like this- https://www.computeralliance.com.au/logitech-harmony-elite-remote-pn-915-000258 Will need to do, well, everything from work my hi fi through to telly and top box stuff. Choosing Netflix, Bigpond movies etc. It will hopefully put my gorgeous big Meridian remote and one Panasonic topbox remote and one LG telly remote into storage.
Guest Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 A bit of info here: http://www.stereo.net.au/articles/which-remote-is-right-for-me But I use the Harmony Elite you mention above. I can't fault it, but put aside a day to truly set it up correctly and be prepared to fine tune the settings. The remotes have become better and better, but programming seems to have become harder and harder. HDMI-CEC messes things up mostly. 2

Thanks Marc, shall check the link out and make sure the programming isn't a Sunday arvo job mid-stubbies.

Guest Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 You obviously haven't set up any of the new range of Harmony al? It used to be easy.
Darren69 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) @:) al I quite like that layout as I am used to the 'two handed squarish' remotes after using the excellent Meridian remote. The Meridian remote 'learns' as well but not the on the keys that I want to use, they are locked to Meridian only. I might see if there still any around for sale. Edit- Jayzuz Al, they were 900 bucks 8 years ago!! Couldn't find anything, only batteries. Edited January 24, 2017 by Darren69

Darren69 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Yes, hard buttons on volume etc please, I get annoyed enough with my cursed touch screen phone at work all day without going down that road with the remote!
Peter Sherriff Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 My old Harmony is sitting in a drawer somewhere and has been replaced, for now at least, with a Broadlink 'Black Bean' (otherwise known as the RM3 Mini) and an old Android tablet running the Broadlink e-Control app. It's not as pretty an end state solution as some others and there's a bit of 'lag' as the instruction makes its way through my home network via WiFi but it's a very cheap, discrete little transmitter and pretty versatile. If you need more than simple IR control the RM Pro also adds RF apparently but I haven't had any need for that so can't comment on how well that works. 1

Darren69 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 @Martykt good point! That reminded me. I need a breathalyser on mine as well. 1

Jventer Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I had 2 of the Harmony remotes. A basic one and the Harmony One. I think the Harmony 650 is all you need and is a lot cheaper than the Elite. 1

This is disturbing on so many levels. For example , why would a lovely lady like that hang out with that cast member from " The Hills Have Eyes" ??? 2
Satanica Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) The Elite and older Ultimate have the hub which is an IR Blaster so when you send a command it's actually sending RF which has the huge advantage of not needing line of sight to your devices. I literally turn my hifi and aircon off as I'm leaving the house and leave the remote by the front door. When I come home it's there to turn everything back on before I'm even in the living room. I could never go back to an old fashioned line of sight universal IR remote. Edited January 24, 2017 by Satanica
