Far out!

Well spotted Trevor.  It's just incredible that this sort of stuff can be made for so little money.

Copying the faceplate and Mark Levinson logo is not cool in my opinion but one of Mark Levinsons competitors copied some of these circuits and sold them as they're own proprietary designs (can't say who it is on a public forum but it was pretty shocking when i found out) and another minor manufacturer did too who also said it was they're unique circuit so i'm sure there are others also.

Would still love to hear what it sounds like at that price!

I wasnt think on those lines, I just want the cabinet and gutted the insides....:D

Its nothing like an ML2. 2 channel for a start. Good price though if it works properly.

For how long does the copyright apply to the circuit ?

The cabinet and look is certainly cheeky .

Just like the Chinese fake replica cars and such that run around china. I don't think they care about copy right !

theres one thing buying a dodgy fake and doing so knowing full well, what bothers me more is some scum buying it bringing in the country then selling to some unsuspecting person either here or on eBay as the real thing.

IF there were forsale pics for something like this, doubt I'd be able to know it's a fake or real thing and something we unlikely to know till the unsuspecting actually recieved it !

ebay has had the fake ML and gold munds and such, I've reported to them, but not something they give two hoots even though there policy forbids it.

No; they just don't care.  "Let's copy something good but make it crap".

I found a China copy of our own MWHouston Thermionics and linked it to him.  Nothing he could do about it.  He makes it by hand here (very well) to order, why would he be selling from China ?

TopGear UK tested the China Fake Rolls Royce.  Just big.  Rubbish on every bit that had some function.  At least all the early Japanese cars we imported in the early 1970s were useful (and took the market by storm).  Great Wall (of sh!te) anyone ?

The Patents on products seem to be valid for 20 years in the US .Using the original circuits ( assuming the patent has expired )  Is it possible that ML amps could be built from better ( today ) components eg Capacitors , resistors and semiconductors etc at a fraction of the original price and actually sound better than the original ? Would the sound quality stand up in todays market ??

Who ya calling scum?

Actually, I think this is one of those First Watt rip offs that do the rounds on Ebay stuck into a fancy case. The build on the components looks sort off OK from the piccies they show (for what that's worth) and assuming they've copied the circuits correctly then that part should be OK. I don't fancy my chances in the long term as they components will no doubt start to go South within a few years.

Ironic that they seem to have managed to have ripped off 2 manufacturers in one device.

But it does go to highlight one thing. When you see something come out of China and you think "sh*t that's cheap", be assured that even at that price, everyone (except the poor guy assembling it) is making good money. I worked on an architectural project about 10 years ago where we had a choice between using german door handles on the cabinetry on 1000 units that were priced at about $11 each, or using some made in China.

I got a sample and a data sheet from the Chinese manufacturer done in that quint style that they use. They had a price per unit on the thing in USD. Go on guess how much they were..... 0.001c each. I kid you not. No wonder manufacturing in most western countries is up the proverbial. Even if we started discounting to sell things below cost, we still couldn't compete.

Rant over.

I posted this recently on another thread. This was taken from another hifi product sold on Aliexpress, apparently fully designed and made in China. The irony is delicious:

Design Features:

1, no copy of foreign products, tourmaline plus graphite design, but their own research and development of semiconductor chip technology to achieve electronic grounding box. Small size, low cost, the effect is stronger, customers often brought and imported from Europe and the earth box contrast. This is the real domestic research and development of their own innovative technology to maintain the dignity of the Chinese people, do not copy, do not learn from.

You could say that xxx manufacturer allegedly copied... (providing you are reasonably confident of your source).

yep should be no reason to think the components are ok ? seeing its not what it says on the case... no way id presume the caps for instance are what they say on the tin ?

plenty of  cheapo chinese rip offs on the net where they re skin some cheapo's with what ever your hearts desire...

yes ironic and I suspect you will be right re going south within a few years... thats unless hasnt killed someone before ...

I in no way believe that the copied gear coming out of China would be anywhere like the Genuine article but we just pay way too much for  gear in Australia .

I was in the Electronic Industry for 35 years and remember on a trip to Japan being told that a product that sold in Australia for $2k had a factory cost of around $250  + marketing , shipping ,warranty etc etc .

Most Hi fi stores have a 40% mark up on speakers plus the wholesaler that sells to them has a 25% mark up . The price of the product increases around 65% just in Australia  .

I have had my rant as well .
