muon* Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 (edited) As wonderful sounding as the Raphaelite is, and it is, I moved to simplification for practicality complete with SQ compromises with some music types. Plus I would really need to raise that shelf with the transport and DAC more to accommodate it under there Was nice to have it on loan to experience it, cheers, Matt. muon* Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 OK, raised the shelf above and put it back in, I'm too curious and need to hear this once run in a decent amount. 4 1
MattyW Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on what changes with burn in. There should be change even if just tube burn in let alone transformers.

Likely just the usual, opening up more and becoming more coherent/organised, I'm not good at critical listening these days, let alone describing things. 1
MattyW Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 (edited) Been a while since I bothered critical listening. Once my system got to a certain point and not feeling the need to improve things I simply stopped doing it. Edited February 19, 2024 by MattyW 8

Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume that 'critical listening' is sitting in the sweet spot. What's point of having a kick-arse system if you're not going to sit in the 'sweet spot'? 1

I think what he is saying is that he has arrived at a level of satisfaction with the existing gear and it has just become about the enjoyment of the music. Surely this is better than the usual audiophile neurosis, where one tries to pick out so called faults. and are not happy until they find something, however minute it may be. ************Of course it goes without saying that this is not personally directed at anyone in particular********** Edited February 19, 2024 by rantan typos 4 1

Yes, I'm at the same point....happy with what I've got. Having said that, I will 'critical listen' to the SQ of a new or second hand LP purchase.....but not to my system. Got rid of vinyl due to my daughter and I do miss some aspects of playback though it’s more the physical aspect. I find nothing lacking in terms of sonics. Nice to be able to just chill and not worry about things. That said, degrade anything in the system and it’s obvious. Edited February 21, 2024 by MattyW 2 1

The only thing is that I cannot afford $65+ for an LP, so I am just using it for my existing library 6

I would have been nice to have both but funds and circumstances did not permit this.

Discogs is great! 3 1

I wonder what that comes out to now when adjusted for inflation? That $6.95 was also a reasonably large percentage of my income at a time when an afternoon at the pub on a Saturday and a KFC feed on the stagger home would work out to be about the same price as an LP. My first LPs were 10/-, a $1. I do remember when they were $5. I paid $200 a few years back for a Sony re-print. 1

Even further back, singles were $1 (and before 14/02/1966 they were 10 shillings - which was a lot of money for someone born in the early 50's), E.P.s $1.50 -$2. I remember buying Richard Harris' MacArthur Park and The Beatles Hey Jude for that princely sum 1
Grizzly Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 A little blood rush to the head on Sunday resulted in a vastly different view from the chair. The way the mcm drawers hide the cables is quite satisfying!! I also finally got a couple of prints hung with space between for some diffusion at some stage in the near future. 20 4

Great looking amp Surely it deserves a place on the cabinet next to the turntable 1

This is what I want to do. A nice cabinet with drawers to store CDs out of sight but easily accessible and the gear across the top. Looks great! 4

Transformers, not so much in the brief!! Edited February 21, 2024 by Grizzly 3 1
