Just happens these arrived on my door Thursday morning on a pallet on top of a pallet. Carefully carried (walked) them inside and cracked open..So what do they look like? Amazing build quality, beautifully finished. Well packed packed and easy to set up. Rock solid, heavy, great spikes and speaker terminals. Gloss is floorless and front baffle is covered with a leatherette type material that is soft to the touch. I am running them in with my Exposure 2010S2 as a preamp running the Exposure Classic XXVII power-amp. Streaming via a HiFi Rose RS250 network streamer/dac, CD spinning duties by a Consonance Droplet CD5. Cables a mix of Audioquest, VDH and Isotech. How do they sound??? Straight out of the box surprisingly good! I never thought I'd buy a Focal speaker after hearing a pair years ago. Nearly made my ears bleed and I very much dislike bright or harsh sounding speakers. These I could listen to all day, it seem Focal have very much toned down that Aluminium/Magnesium Inverted Dome Tweeter without losing any of that sparkly detail. I'm loving them so far with only 10-15 hours on them. The Exposure combo seems to be a good match so far however with 50-100 hours on them I plan to give them so real juice in the form of the Plinius 9200 (200w/ch, 8ohms). May or may not enhance them. Only more hours and time will bring out the performance of these beauties, until then we just sit, listen and wait.....Thanks for reading Very different from the Harbeths. Congratulations. Enjoy. You sure you didn't wrap your new speakers 2

mwhouston Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Trying a little mix and match with a few tube preamps and Clarity II my SS power amp. Here with “Aspire” preamp. Very nice. 9
muon* Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Managed to connect the safety IEC earth in the tube pre amp to a spot where it doesn't increase hum/buzz, now bearable with near inaudible at the seated position with no music. 14
Me2also Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Just got a 5wpc 6AS7 with 12AX7 SET from retro thermionic- https://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2022/07/persuasion-5998-set.html?m=1. I have a hodge-podge of bits. ATM it's EV Interface C Series II, PEAK/ CEC FR 250 idler turntable, DL103 cartridge, Denon, AQVOX, Supratek phono and preamplification, Marantz 7003 SA CD, Geisler Fein DAC II, SSD Harddrive and QOBUZ through PC for digital into the new power amp. It has nice 10w Edcor OTs, a big Hammond PT and quality point to point internals, including Mundorf Supreme interstage caps, etc, etc. I find it substantially more revealing than any ss amps I've heard. For instance the vinyl has to be kept clean for the music to be the same. The Russian 6AS7/ 6H5C it came with is the star of the show and matches well with Sovtek 12AX7. It shines with accoustic instruments, electric guitars, baritone voices, and actually everything I've played on it. The faceplate says 'Pursuasion' and it has me convinced. I'll add some more happy snaps of my humble stereo soon, but just wanted to show off about this for now. 7

If you have the room I'd suggest pulling it forward a bit to try and clear reflections from the side walls. A nice rug in front would do wonders too. 1 6

Those Orpheus speaker are using the same drivers ans the Richter Mkll series, those Audax midwoofers are very good if the crossover lets them breath (large gauge inductors) 2

The nexus do their job well, but they don't hold a candle to my CS-28 Voltaire's. But I dare not put those in my lounge room for fear of the cat knocking them over. 1
muon* Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 (edited) In my Richter Harlequin Mkll's I replaced the small gauge inductors (thin wire wound) on the midwoofers with 2mm to 2.5mm solid copper wound air inductors (same henry rating) and the bass opened right up, revealing layers of texture and energy that wasn't there before. Theres no free lunch. When you go air core from iron or ferrite core (what I use) you need more turns which ups resistance and capacitance - inter-turn and inter-layer. To cut resistance you have to go thicker wire which can introduce time slurring. Good ferrite doesn’t saturate easily, thats why I go heavy wire on long ferrite rods. No inter-layer capacitance. 1

I was going air to air, there Sounded fantastic with no subjective downside. 1
