sjay Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) She sad she broke her dragon in half after 3 years of fun with it. Only major change is I am running a full KImber KS-1136 XLR loom now. Upgraded from KS1126 and KS-1130. Speaker cables are still Kimber Summit Bi-Focal XL's. Room needs more treatment, its sounding much better in this layout though. Edited January 10 by sjay 14 1
maximus Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) @sjaylove the setup, no issues with sound quality even though close to boundaries, bass in particular. I've got the same pooch btw Edited January 10 by maximus

I've got the same pooch btw it was the other way around this past 18 months and only just got motivated to move it all around over my holiday break. Its much better in this config, there is a single bass trap behind each speaker so far. Placement is far from ideal , it will take me a few weeks to settle those big girls in. I want a tad more bass so will move them around a bit more in due course to see what I can squeeze out of them. The room is 4x5m in the main area, its a bit of an odd shape ( its open on on side where the kalix racks are ) so working with what I got. I have definitely had better sounding rooms and had worse as well so not complaining. re: the woof, she is the bestest of girls, i bet yours is too. velcro dog though.

True I feel it just lack a bit of magic ,finesse what ever you like to call it otherwise it just sits there looking good ,runs cool as, doing it’s job never gets flustered , to upgrade ,may cost a lot more than I have in my piggy bank ,just to get a bit of finesse 1
maximus Posted January 10 Posted January 10 @sjay'I want a tad more bass ' add an XBD cabinet, that should fix it. 1

mwhouston Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Rolling between two different DIY SE UL pentode tube power amps. Two different power tubes - Phillips EL3N (1963) and Mullard re-issue EL34. Every four days or so roll one in and one out. Love them both for different reasons. Staying with “Aspire” 6SN7 preamp. Love the gold accents on the EL34 amp - “Perspective”. 8
crisis Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Reorganizing my PC set up and thought Id give the little Tannoy Mercury MX1s another go. I did this back when I had the Primare I32 and was quite surprised. This time around we have the I35 and CD35. In fairness they are augmented by a REL T7i and speaker cable costing probably three times what the speakers did when new however it is about seeing just how good they can sound. They are clearly not optimally mounted nor did I dial the sub in to them. Again I am really surprised. Played some well known demo music and several times my gob hung open.. Are they better than my Silver 300s? Of course not. There is definitely something missing in the mids and sound stage and imaging and bass. I'm pleased as I would be pretty disappointed with the MAs if the Tannoys were as good. Could I live with the sound? Difficult. With a sub there is a great case to be made for stand mounts. The experiment actually made me take a look on line and I saw the MA Gold stand mounts for $2500. They might actually suit my smallish room a bit better... It again shows that your money is better spent at the pointy end. I see so many posts, mainly on FB , where people go all in for speakers and drive them with lesser amps and source. Not to mention placing them in ways that give me, with no OCD, OCD. 7
andyr Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Why would you think that anything 'educational' on social media is worth anything at all? There's lots to be commended about quality (sealed) standmounts plus a sub - actually: * preferably two, and * with an active HP filter on the standmounts.

The term "social media" seems to invoke eternal wrath and derision. "Social media" is a platform. It is benign. Its up to consumers to use discretion. My father told me 1000 years ago never believe anything you read in the newspaper. I couldn't really understand why. I also didn't realise that newspapers were owned by about 5 people on earth and it was in their interest to publish what the wanted us to read. I used to think why would anyone write anything that was not true? F/F to reality and I kind of think why would anyone write anything that was 100% true and why wouldn't anyone use the internet to try to validate what they read? My FB/social media reference is because members of those groups do purchase equipment and post their equipment photos proudly displaying their conquests. I'm not really wanting to bring them down. Merely wishing they were a little more aware of what their equipment could sound like as opposed to how they are setting it up. As far as the positives of stand mounted speakers, I totally agree. But I am trying not to be lured into buying more equipment to satisfy my curiosity.

muon* Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Not sure how this will sound compared to being here, but let see. Recorded using budget Pixel 6. Edit: yeah, sounds a very spitty on the vocals via the phone/youtube, but not as bad as I thought it would be over all. Oops! It's because I'm listening via crappy little computer speakers, not as bad using my Planar Headphones. I should get a phantom power source for the condenser mic I have, that would improve things a lot. Edited January 19 by muon* 3 2

I would suspect that advertising shot dates from the 50s - so that particular 'record changer' would be aged around 90 years, now. So I hope they have replenished their stock, in the meantime, Sue.
