joamonte Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 side wow...my wife will be very happy if my system look like that.. ;D BTW just two suggestion, 1)the carpet look nice but it actually dont really suit the deco of you living room, maybe you can consider change it to a more simple design one.. 2) the red colour spk cable of front spk look quite oddful in the picture, maybe you can consider "camouflage" it a bit.. Yes, I know thats notting to do with HT..... ;D ;D
zenkinz Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 thanks all for your comments and compliments. desray, the system is Cabasse XO 5.1 with Onkyo AVR. The TV is Panasonic 42-PA20U jonlee, as lizarazu2000 has commented, the high placement is due to the design, it's currently at 2.4m high I believe. I would love to put it at ear level through the stands, but alas :P Also, I was worried of the unnecessary sound vibration if I mount the 2 left/right front speakers on the gypsum board, hence putting them the stand. I wish I could revert to wall mounting, but very concern about the quality. Was also recommended against mounting on the wall, for the sound staging quality. joamonte, I know the carpet looks alittle odd, but I think it looks quite alright now even though initially I share the same thoughts as you. Maybe it's the perception thingy, but I couldn't find modern design for a indian-silk persian carpet, which has its value-retention. How to camouflag the red cable? tt's one that's cracking me up.

I see....... regarding the cable,....maybe you can consider paint it white.... :)
lizarazu2000 Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 get white tape and tape them...round and round.. :P...it will be best if you mount the satelites on the walls.
Guest jonlee Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 To be more pro, buy white colour heat shrink. U can get it from LHS. I see....... regarding the cable,....maybe you can consider paint it white.... :)
lizarazu2000 Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 Hi Joamonte. Where did you get the curtains behind your arm chairs? is it blockout curtains? How much it cost?
wind30 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 zenkinz, nice setup. very neat. As to the cables, I was discussing this problem with my wife for the surround speakers. She wanted to built a platform for the area and DRILL a hole into the platform and run wires underneath it. So basically you cannot move the speaker stands else you see two holes.... good idea? I thought quite funny leh.
zenkinz Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 you mean platform created so to run the speaker cables beneath it to the rear surround speakers? what I did was going through the false ceiling.
wind30 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 yes. This applys when you use speaker stands whether for rear surrounds or front speakers. To totally conceal the wires you can built a platform and run wires underneath it. If the speakers are wall mounted it will go throughthe false ceiling. but some of my speakers don't have a wall to mount to so thinking of using a speaker stand.
zenkinz Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 not necessary, you can hack abit of the wall so that your cable can run through the conduit built withint the wall. It's not expensive and best, you are not limited to just platform solutionl
wind30 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 ?? I mean the speaker stand is not right beside the wall. There will always be a small speaker line running across the floor , ie your setup, unless it can go "underneath" the floor.
prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 FINALLY, my HT is up and i am able to post some picture here. Nothing special, all normal stuffs. :) [glow=red,2,300]A green "bird" HT setup[/glow]

prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Yr statement is very modest ;D Very nice setup. But aren't u going to install curtain? Aiyo...No lah...its NOT modest. I am serious. I am very new to HT. Yes, i am going to install a Dark Grey Blockout curtain in the living room. So, as for now, i have to wait till night time before i could watch anything on the PJ. However, no worries, as i am leaving town for a week, and i am hoping that when i am back, the curtain are up :)

prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 yo prelude....care to share whats in your setup? i mean in details... screen size?? viewing distance? equipments? Are those fronts Wharfedale's? and Polk Audio Sub? How much you spent for the mains...center....sub and surrounds? your screen custom built by contractor? it will also be nice and good if you paint some dark colours on the screen wall... :) OK, below is my basic/simple setup. 1. Receiver - Yammy 1400 2. DVD Player - Momitsu 880 3. Front Speaker - Heybrook 4. Center Speaker - B&W 2000IFS 5. SUB - Polk Audio PS202(10') 6. Surr. Speaker - Wharfedale 7. Projector - IF4805 (Custom make wall mount) 8. Screen - Custom Make screen (100") 9. Interconnect (for CD) - Xindak FA-GOLD 10. Speaker Cable - Xindak FS-2 11. Power cord for PJ - Xindak FP GOLD Finally, my viewing distance is ONLY 3.7m. How much ah? seriously i have NO idea already. Paid too much for my house till i lost count hahahhahahhaha :P ;D Paint some dark color on my wall??? well, i think my wife will "kill" me :P No lah...initially, my wall suppose to be grey in color. However, the "grey" which we chose, turn out to be "BLUE". NOT the contractor fault. Because when my wife look at the color chart, its looks like GREY, however, when painted on a BIG piece of wall, it looks more like BLUE than grey. as such, we decided to paint it white.
jw Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 what was that black color "dustbin" lookalike below your window grille?...For a moment i tot is SVS sub...
lewlian Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 what was that black color "dustbin" lookalike below your window grille?...For a moment i tot is SVS sub... hahaha, my thoughts exactly!
joamonte Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Hi Joamonte. Where did you get the curtains behind your arm chairs? is it blockout curtains? How much it cost? Ikea $129.

lizarazu2000 Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 Ikea $129. is it blockout material?
lizarazu2000 Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 OK, below is my basic/simple setup. 8. Screen - Custom Make screen (100") how much u manage to get the screen for? and what abt the material? what material is that?
prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 what was that black color "dustbin" lookalike below your window grille?...For a moment i tot is SVS sub... hahaha, my thoughts exactly! Ops.....did i forgotten to mention that i have an "SVS"???? 8) :P hahahaahhahhaha LOL ;D No lah, just pulling you legs. ;D That is the rack that is an "extra" now. The rack that you see in the picture was suppose to be a 3 tier rack. however, now i only need 2. therefore, the last one was sitting there. (have already moved it away). Cheers
prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 how much u manage to get the screen for? and what abt the material? what material is that? you are damn right. I CANT get that desired viewing size. >:( i make it a 100" just so that if i am going to upgrade to a short-throw PJ in the future, i dont have to change the screen. Material wise ah? hrmmm i am NOT sure too. however, according to my friend, it is the one that she (she is an event organiser) use for BenQ exhibition last time when they are expected to bring like more than 10 "screens" oversea for the exhibition. 10 screens???? how to bring(somemore oversea?)??? Therefore, they (My friend & Co.) came out with this innovative idea of using this material for BenQ PJ to project on. The results, according to her was amazing(at least the BenQ rep. also think so). Therefore, she pass it to me for use.
prelude95 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 saw you wooden floor is quite reflective, maybe you can consider a carpet so to reduce the screen reflection that might disturb you when watching HT... Carpet it???? Good idea for HT. however, i dont think this is possible. For 3 reasons. 1. I have 2 dogs (what if they pee on it?....then i will have to wash till mad) 2. Cost. My wife will not agreed to anything that need to spend additional money (especially for HT purposes) 3. That timber strip is a platform. Specially design to make my living room "nice". Putting a carpet to it will spolit the overall look of the living room. Anyway, you can see that it is reflection becos my window has no curtain now. When i am watching DVD, i will have my curtain shut and there shall NOT be any reflection (I hope). However, it was a "wrong" decision to make a timber strip platform there for HT. BUT before i decided to get PJ, i was intending to get a RPTV with simple sound systems (NOT HT). BUT BUT after coming here (this forum), i must say that its both addictive & influencing. hehehehhehhe (pushing the blame now ;)) Finally decided to get a PJ. Thats was too late already as my new house has already started it reno.
