ABG Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I'm moving home over the weekend and sadly the new abode has neither cable nor NBN. Can any of the tech gurus here help me choose a modest ADSL2+ modem/router that will cover a typical 3 bedroom apartment? I don't really need the latest, blazingly fast unit available - just something that is stable and has good coverage with at least 4 ports. I'm using a cable modem/router that was supplied to me by Telstra last year when they upgraded my old unit. It's just perfect, except it doesn't work as an ADSL modem. Because the new place doesn't have cable, I'm moving away from Telstra probably to TPG in an attempt to get better bang for buck. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
WhakPak Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Won't TPG supply you with a modem/router as part of the deal? 1
ABG Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 I'm going for a no lock in contract. I can buy a Huawei unit from them for $100. I was wondering whether there's better options out there for the price.
PKay Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Hi Andrew, This is what I have at $160 it is an excellent router, the router is in my attic room and it covers the house through double brick for wifi. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Modems/ADSL/50106-D6200-100AUS?gclid=CLe3rpeT0tMCFYt-vQodfkcIwQ Where are you off to? adamg Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 No techie but read a lot of reviews before buying one of the these a few months ago. Has been very good so far. Price pretty good for decent performing and reliable all in one. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/D-Link-DSL-2890AL-Dual-Band-AC1750-Cloud-Modem-Router-/251430684468?hash=item3a8a6fc734:g:OvUAAOSwuLZY4g2R 1
Rodrigo Pereira Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I'm using a TP-Link Archer D9 in my 3 bedroom townhouse ... Coverage is pretty good even in my backyard. I was never a TP-Link fan but I must admit I got no complains about this modem/router unit. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk 1
frankn Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 I have one at home you can have for shipping + donation to SNA if you want? I'm away until Thursday next week but let me know if you want it. Was using it in 4bd house until we switched to NBN 1
ABG Posted May 13, 2017 Author Posted May 13, 2017 Bugger. I've been too busy with the move to see all the replies to this thread. I ended up buying a Billion modem on the recommendation of one of my eldest son's mates who is an IT wizz, Thanks for all the replies.
Brad67 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 This post popped up rather conveniently for me. Debating whether to spend some $ on a dual band router for home. Cheap TP link modem doesn't cover house and completely chokes when the kids get on iPads [emoji21] which is rather frustrating when Spotify and Chromecast start dropping out. Have to wait till September to go back on cable unfortunately.Sent from my 5056I using Tapatalk
