@kelossus Now im wondering whether mine can be improved also by redoing this. Given the fact mine are an older series than these they either got lazier or better WRT the crossover build.

If you could PM me approx. cost id be very grateful mate.

lovely work from Nigel as always.

But, what do you think now Chris?

Very happy with the outcome.

I don't know if it could be called an upgrade, I can only remember the last time I heard them, not the first time. Just having them working properly was worth the cost.

Here's an interesting one regarding the Sov's. Seems like the crossovers were changed along the way also through V1, 2 &3.

This is a pic of the crossover in @kelossus pair

And this is what mine look like

Besides the fact mine have a bunch of additional resistors for the 3x 1db bass reduction switches that they removed in later editions I wonder why the layout and parts were changed so dramatically over a short period of time? Also going to be a bugger for me to identify some of those unbranded parts to determine "correct" values if I ever wanted to freshen it up.

Mine were built around 1989 based on the date codes of the caps. Nigel did post a complete parts break down on DIY Audio.

Yep just a ton of hot glue to stop any vibration although it isn't necessary as most  (if not all) larger Duntech speakers have there own sealed compartment which houses the crossover.

Hello, I have just acquired a pair of DUNTECH Marquis DCL-500 here in France (it's a rarity!!!). I would like to have information on this model and in particular the speakers used.

They used Vifa but @Silver Audiophile had some with Morel drivers also.

I’m sure others will know more

I was scrolling the local Swiss "Ricardo" auction website and was surprised to find 2 sets of Duntechs listed at the moment. Add 50% to get the $A equivalent pricing 😬

Hello everyone I am the proud owner of "the" pair of Duntech Princess 5000 featured here , the ex-owner seemed legit , purchased them from Encel in Richmond in the 90's.  I purchased for $2500.

It was a difficult decision given the condition thus lots of "unknown unknowns", have wanted a pair of Duntech for a long long time and they just don't come up that much, it's not like every other day a pair of Princess or Sovereigns are on Facebook marketplace. Except for the foam on the drivers, I found the speakers, overall, in very nice condition.

The chief concern echoing in my mind was the phrase "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Rolls Royce".

Presently in Tokyo, the first step on return to Melbourne will be obviously getting the 4 base drivers tested and if ok refoamed, if a one or more has failed then I will need to search for replacements.

Noted Jakes comment "I thought about it as I have some spare woofers and mids and tweeters but restoring one pair was enough….. ", maybe I will have a new BFF :)

As for components to drive these I am thinking of acquiring Japanese 20-year-old+ Luxman and/or Accuphase components, or am I just asking for more problems?  Something like a pair of these Luxman  M-06  https://jp.mercari.com/item/m75785651675  or an Accuphase P500L https://mercari-shops.com/products/XAHaP6d4mwLYynrr2YndmK, suggestions welcome for me to look out for.

Noted some posts with drivers available in Europe, I am heading over so probably worth buying a spare driver https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/dynaudio-24w75-x08-tieftoener/2368934658-172-9390. What would be the correct driver to purchase?

The original in my Princess are

24w75 06

They test at 6ohm

Sorry I won’t be parting with any of mine.
But each driver was critically matched in the crossover so any new driver will make a difference to the original intention. That could be a very small difference or a large one.

@kelossus had his dad check them out and he has stated one driver is broken. I’d trust him given his knowledge so you will need at least one.

I would also thoroughly check the scan speak mids X 4 which is also unobtainable.
The tweeters come up very regularly.

Ask the previous owner to confirm the model of the woofers so you get the exact ones

"Critically matched", does that mean the crossover is tunable? Or just that Duntech had high quality control and just selected the drivers that exceeded a certain set of metrics? How did you select your replacement drivers?

Here is what I could find

https://www.ebay.com/itm/403507755313

I noted in your restore thread you replace all the internal wiring and if my reading was correct the cross-overs got rebuild or replaced, maybe I missed the why, were these damaged/failed? From my perspective the set I purchased the boxes are in better condition so I don't think I need to break out the sanders.   From what I could see you moved the speaker terminal plate from mid mount to bottom any reason why?

From my understanding Dunlavy picked the speakers and matched the crossovers not just to that speaker model but that particular speaker itself. So any change to the speaker or the crossover will deviate from originality. In saying that they are old speakers (your model is older than mine) so parts have to be replaced when necessary.
My crossovers were already upgraded with advice from Kiat the owner of Duntech. The drivers were original except the surrounds on the woofers had all been done. This would change the original woofers to some degree.  But all things considered they still sound magnificent.

The wiring internally isn’t really necessary but I freshened it up just the same. It’s Van Den Hul originally from that I can gather so no slouch.

I didn’t change the terminal plate position. On my model Princess that is the original location and the crossover is mounted behind the tweeter. Mine is the model PCL -1100.

The cabinets in yours are apparently very good so once all the speakers are sorted you should have a great pair of speakers. It may just take some time and luck to get all the right parts.

I would leave the crossovers till last and determine if anything is needed after that. You may find they are ok.

If you deviate on the model of the woofer then at least get two the same so you have symmetry on both sides if you get what I mean.

Hopefully they are an easy restoration and you get a lot of enjoyment from them. They are a magnificent speaker

I hope I am doing this right. I recently bought a pair of Duntech Statesman. Other then the name, I am not familiar with the Series. Is there an owners manual ? Any thing I should know about setting up the speakers and I made several attempts to dig out information  regarding this model, but I had zero or minimal return. Can anyone provide a some information regarding this  model ? Upgrade possibilities ?

I would greatly appreciate any information you can share.
