Squeezebox Touch Wi-Fi stopped working, it's been reliable for the last six years

We've always used it to stream music from internet radio, now we feel bereft !

I connected it to Ethernet cable and it worked on that but the modem is too far away to use Ethernet

It will still play stored music, card or USB stick but that's a secondary function it's streaming music over Wi-Fi that is it's main function and that has stopped

Any ideas how to fix it or if it can be fixed ?

Alternatively

Any ideas what to replace it with ?

Have you changed your wi-fi password recently?

No Kaynin, have not and Wi-Fi connected iPad and Samsung tablet still work happily

Thanks for the quick response

I'm trying to work out how to use the iPad for streaming music as a temporary fix

My internet provider is Internode and we have free internet radio streamin through them, well not free but included in the monthly deal

The iPad will never be as convenient as the Squeezebox Touch

Have you tied going through the setup again to if it fixes the issue?

Yes thanks joz

Tried everything

It works OK on Ethernet but not Wi-Fi

Frustrating because we've got used to it for six years, used it nearly everyday and really miss it

Had a very similar problem with by squeezebox.

Ended up getting a BlueSound Node and haven't looked back.

Better sound (bit to bit streaming of high-res), better interface and easy for the missus to use on her iphone.

Hi Quelch, it is odd that the Squeezebox is not seeing your WiFi hot spot and I still use an original Squeezebox in a second system, but I'm not familiar with the Touch.

As suggested above, try to re set the Squeezebox to see your wireless network. Does the Touch give you a choice in the set up for wireless or ethernet connection? You may have the ethernet connection chosen and not the wireless..........apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs!:D

My Squeezebox has become problematic since Logitech stopped supporting it and I can no longer add albums as it refuses to see any new additions. It still plays everything that was previously loaded and I use it now mainly for the radio stations that are loaded to favourites and they are really quick and easy to access. How would the option of running a long interconnect to your amp or DAC and keep it hooked up by ethernet cable go?

I bought an Auralic Aries Mini for my main system only a month or so ago and I couldn't be happier with that, so can recommend it to you if you're looking to replace the Squeezebox Touch.

Cheers,

Keith

Did you try turning the router off for ten seconds and then on again. Usually works for me when wireless items stop working for me.

Yes thanks everyone, I tried everything suggested

The Squeezebox no longer gives the option of Wi-Fi

I'll keep playing with it to see if I can resurrect it

I’ll have a squiz at the BlueSound Node and Auralic Aries Mini

The missies will want her streaming music back; she’s an artist and has it playing when she is painting

More importantly she has it playing while she is cooking !

Success

I was suspicious of some new security software I was trying

It was an anti-RansomeWare in a Beta version

So I uninstalled it and did a restart on the computer

Then in case that beta software had damaged Logitech Media Server I downloaded and re-installed Logitech Media Server

No joy on the Squeezebox Touch so I did a factory reset on the Squeezebox Touch

Now it found the wireless and I had the option of setting up the Wi-Fi and installing the password

Music and radio streaming are working again on the Squeezebox Touch, you can probably hear American Songbook playing in the background !

Many thanks for all your advice and enthusiasm it helped encourage me to keep trying

I've found WiFi extenders to be very useful around here.

Now that I have reasonable coverage over most of the house I'm about to put the Touches back into service!

Shameless plug.

Is amazing that the squeezebox units keep plugging on. Logitech withdrew support many years ago but there are many interested parties still keeping the firmware up to date. The latest version even supports dsd via the appropriate plugin.

I know this may be a bit dated, but I'm sure there are still many SBT users out there.

I have dealt with multiple issues getting the SBT to be recognized, or the get it to work on wifi.

It pretty much always comes down to two things for me...

1. The static IP address reverts back to a dynamic one. I use PortFoward to easily be able to reconfigure the IP address.

2. Network errors require the SBT be restored to original factory settings.
Once this is done you MUST
i. connect to the SBT via a hard wired ethernet cable,
otherwise the setup will not get past the default language settings.  This required me to get a 100 foot ethernet cable and snake it through the house as the modem is 3 rooms away from the squeezebox, and the house is not wired for Ethernet.

ii. update the firmware on the SBT otherwise you will not be able to even configure the wifi.

iii. applets will need to be reinstalled. I use the Extended Digital Output, and unless this is reinstalled the USB port will act as an input rather than an output.

I  came within a hairs width of getting a 2022 Bluesound Node recently as it took me several days to figure out how to get the SBT to be able to be recognized by LMS, and then to get the wifi access back.
