This is not a Golf competitor. The more natural comparison to the Stinger would be the Audi A5 or S5. In that light the Stinger is a bargain!

id agree with this. this isn't a golf gti or golf r competitor.

its a larger sedan with a larger engine and rear wheel drive. couldnt be further removed from something like a 2L turbo FWD or AWD smaller hatch back.

the stinger doesnt actually have a LOT of competition. and agree VW especially has been playing the supply and demand game all the time. see the limited edition 2 door gti performance. limited run. pre order if want one. there goes any chance for any huge discounts. same with the wolfsburg. limited runs dont even have brochure for what people, are buying. if want one. put money down....only way getting one....

biggest laugh is the bmw trick with the 135i performance. clear out the last lot off the end of the production run of them by popping some aftermarket stuff on when come in the country, keep to a limited number add  about $5k of after market bits and a car that has a $65k drive away cost and suddelnlyhas ~$80k price tag on car sales. just because it is a limited release ?

I will give you change from 20 cents...

I have that said once with genuine terror...

I once stuck a worked 308 into an already tricked 253 LH Torana..

This thing was seriously quick...

My sister-in-laws Beetle broke down...

I offered the Torana as a loan...

She drove it around the block...

Bought it back & said...

"Its much too fast for me"...

She was literally shaking...

Then before they are all sold...

Announce the new 140i at less than..

Wait for it...$60k...

Hmmm...Grid R & 140i...

Both significantly cheaper than their predecessors...

How do you spell collusion....

It won the pissing contest but you still end up with a Kia. :thumb:

I’d rather end up with a Kia over a Holden, anyday

I drove behind a Stinger GT yesterday and it's both lower and wider than expected. I think it looks really good.

I saw my first one on the road last week.   Only caught it from the rear though.

The back end is a lot more rounded around the lights than I expected.   not sure if I like it or not.   leaning towards not.

I saw one a few days back. Looked fantastic. If I had $50K ish, I would place an order tomorrow.

Having just ordered a highly-optioned Audi S5 Sportback, this Kia bothers me because of the material value evident.  You get a lot of car for the money.  I reckon it looks pretty good - only the garish flourishes let it down IMO.  And the pathetic warranty on German cars really p-----s me off!  I wonder how many people will cross-shop these two.  I remember Norpus cross-shopping an AMG45 with a Jeep SRT a few years ago so anything's possible.

The infotainment tech is all a bit low-res and it's not as refined or capable as the Audi, but it's probably adequate.  The deal-breaker for me would be the lack of an AWD version in Aust - I think a car with this amount of power and torque really should have the extra security of something like the Audi Quattro with sports diff.  And the Audi has better interior/luggage capacity despite more compact exterior dimensions and that suits me just fine.  I don't want a bigger car than I need.

But the value comparison is a bit unsettling.  If I didn't get a 15%+ discount on the Audi, it would be even worse.  And I choose a car on the basis of how many boxes it ticks in relation to my requirements rather than how much of a "bargain" it might be.

Anyway, I don't think I'm a brand snob - I'd have more reservations about the "Stinger" bit than the "Kia" brand - just sounds a bit juvenile and "boy-racer" to me.  But  think this seems like a very credible effort from Kia and it will be interesting to see how it evolves.

@Tony M congrats on the new audi an s5 sportback is going to be an awesome thing. but i agree re the stinger.

i saw a i30 SR hyundia the other day and couldnt help but notice the very obvious rip off of the red highlights from the merc a250 even down to the red seat belts!  ... still the i30SR is great value though for a new car (won car of the year).... it gives tech performance of a mk6 golf gti from couple of cars ago i owned but at quite a bargain. the newer hvyundia i30N which is to challenge the current golf gti is actually not far off in price ! getting right up there but will still be up there. i wouldn't be surprised in some golf gti buyers indeed looking at the i30N instead...

why would i be happy about a popular car only having 3 star safety rating, that isnt a good thing for the passengers

such absurdities sometimes spring out of the internet sometimes

do you feel better now that you have personalised it

Well I do wonder why the ANCAP safety rating is in such large format. No need to take it personally it's only a car which you will never buy anyway:)
