Guest Hensa Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Wish I could go to this - the HK show is always a ripper and I never left without a bundle of goodies from the massive sellers market on the lower level! Enjoy it, guys!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Oh, so take some spending money? Didn't know about the "sellers market".
Guest Hensa Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Oh, so take some spending money? [emoji4] Didn't know about the "sellers market". Yeah - pretty impressive - lots of CD and record stalls and plenty of accessories stalls with cables, isolation tweaks, and so on. Pricing was significantly under the HK retail prices as well!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

metal beat Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 a few nice sounding rooms I thought the super large Avalon speakers sounded excellent - chean and went very deep. the speakers themselves are monsters 1
metal beat Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) the large Gryphon's looked superb - can't comment on sound but might get to listen to them tomorrow Edited August 11, 2017 by metal beat 1
metal beat Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 The Zellaton speakers with the Dohman table was nice and clean sounding Whereas the Tannoy/Accuphase room was warmer sounding 1

Thought about catching a flight tonight to go and have a bo peep. But the thought of a 9 hour flight recovering from a bout of flu saw a quick reality check. As an aside , caught the train from the city back home early this evening, so many people coughing and hacking, the concept of a flu pandemic in a city of 6 million is just around the corner. It was bloody scary.
metal beat Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) C'mon @guru. Catch the plane over. @HergestI think they were Karma speakers. by the time I got to that room, it was standing room only. You can get to see some of this gold bling the msb amps looked pretty amazing actually Edited August 11, 2017 by metal beat 2
Guest Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Yes they are Kharma - can't remember which model, but I've never been disappointed with anything of their speakers. The standout to me today was the Opera Loudspeakers, Grand Challis.
Guest Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 New Continuum Turntable and Viper Tonearm: I managed to organise one for delivery for a closer look soon
Guest Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 There was a massive build-up for these, but during the Michael Fremer hosted presentation they only played two music tracks which were completely unfamiliar to me. @Stump might be able to offer some thoughts.

Aside from loving the gold finger theme running through this thread, you have to love the parallels of lecture theatre and domestic listening room, enthusiasm does not show restraint in this part of the world.
metal beat Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 the beautiful Luxman electronics with the hideous in person B & W's. Always loved the look of Pathos and the sound

As mentioned being setup for a theatre you will not get the soundstage of home speakers but you do get the natural accurate sound of the live singing I experience later in the day.Although I would not say no to a home demo 2

And how far back do you need to sit in order for the driver components to integrate, I understand the desire as Cessaro always take very large rooms at audio shows and generally don't provide seating so nearly always heard standing up, obviously not in this case however. Are they trying to place themselves as the new successor to the original western electric/ altec voice of the theatre or is this a crossover into high quality sound reinforcement audio?

It never ceased to amaze me how big the demo rooms were at the HK show with the irony being that the average domestic listening space in Hong Kong is on the small side compared to here.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
metal beat Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 the YG's were not sounding great for some reason, but will have another listen later today to hear if they improve.the very large main hall - a bit like CES and so many peopleThis room sounded really good. The Albedo speakers were excellentCould not really comment on the sq as the Chinese musak was so unfamilarimpressive preThe Piega room sounded pretty goodThe Estelon / Devialet room sounded flat and lifeless - like they were playing mp3's.the Advantgarde room which was right next door sounded great.Huge Wisdoms being driven by 5 x Dägostinosex still sells in AsiaMagico M3's. man are the small for the price they charge. 3
