I've had an association with the Halcro brand probably longer than anyone else here on SNA. I've certainly owned more of their products than anybody else here. The company used to pride itself on production perfection. Sending out unfinished product I think dilutes the brand. But with this new direction at least more people get to become owners and enjoy their wonderful products. That's a good thing. But I am entitled to my opinion about diluting the brand.

Understand your point... I believe that it is why it is not sold proper retail channel but offered here at closed community who loves music but could not afford or had not have a chance to try Halcro so it does not affect brand image as such.

At least for me, I would not be able to experience Halcro product if the opportunity like this was not existed and now I am keen to explore new product line that they are going to introduce.

I think this whole discussion is heading in a negative direction and does more to the Halcro brand than the alleged dilution in discussions, so I repeat, let's move on :)

Agree 100%

There is one elitist as opposed to the other 99.99% of people who think this is a great thing. If anything it is promoting and widening the awareness of the Halcro brand beyond the hands of a few who see it as an exclusive boy's club.

Clearly a great opportunity, and I rather like the raw aesthetic.

I am just sorry that I was probably a bit too slow to react, and have likely missed out.

Very supportive, and envious of those who have snapped up such a great bargain.

If anything, assuming the product comes up half as good as the feedback received so far, it opens up Halcro as an alternative place to consider when shopping for products.

If and when I need to upgrade I will certainly consider Halcro.

Hi guys,

To anyone who has a factory finished EC-800 could you please post a photo of the front panel so I can see the button lettering clearly.

All the photos I could find on the net are so small.

Need it to take to someone who can do the lettering for me.

Cheer

Many thanks cadfad. That will help no end.

I have decided to go with the brushed bare metal look which certainly took some to remove the machining marks and to get it the way I wanted it. I really like the bare look, very industrial.

Tinted acrylic panel has been fitted over display. It looks much better as it is no longer so bright and the electronics at each end are not as visible.

Fabricated and fitted brushed aluminium front for the tray this morning.

I have a mate who is a sign writer who can print the graphics on the inside of super thin and clear tape so I am going to give that a shot.

Hopefully he can print each row as one strip so as to make it easier to apply. When I had the front panel off I took a template of the button positions to make his job easier.

I will post a photo when finally completed.

Absolutely loving this thing.

I'd like to hear the EC800 up against the PS Audio DirectStream Memory Player.

By the interest shown in this old Halcro spinner might give some impetus for a new model spinner from them. Curious whether the new Halcro still has access to the Ireland expertise that went into some of their original designs.

Wow, how did I miss this sale ???

The PS Audio Direct Stream is still the best we've heard so far (particularly with Huron Firmware).....Ted Smith is a clever man.......watch this space though, we're working on something :)... Congrats to the few who scored one of these..... It must have felt like Christmas.....

Yep 'again' a big thanks to @Magenta

i must say the known weakness in my system is a lack of a very high end DAC. I knew that and have been working out what I need.

My Lumin D1 music streamer has a pretty good Wolson  WM8741 DAC   In it but this  player is above the DAC in the Lumin.

Fortunately for me I picked D1 coz as it can take an external DAC. Sooo the search for a DAC for my streamer continues and the HALCRO has been a wonderful find for my expanding cd/sacd collection.

yes I am going digital but sometimes dropping a cd in a playing is as easy as pie.

And yes I know everyone is excited by DSD/PCM/etc but how much Redbook stuff do you have access to ? This player is really really good with CD's and luckily SACD 's.

And yes I will look at other HALCRO and Magenta products even at $$$$ given the quality of this machine.

In that case you should have a listen to Ayon Sigma DAC.
