Curious whether the new Halcro still has access to the Ireland expertise that went into some of their original designs.

There was never any design input from anyone in Ireland. We do however have a European warehouse and service technician there...

So Paddy O'Shea didn't have any design input in EC800 and others in Halcro Logic series?

I think Yale sounds better than Huron. Various explanations why that might happen. The starting point of the update and other things have some influence on the resulting Huron sonics. The recommendation is to upgrade from Pikes Peak. I upgraded from Torreys forced and Huron is very aggressive on the highs, very fatiguing. I need to try the reversion back to PP before doing Huron again. As you say, digital is evolving with FPGA in DAC's, but there is something to be said in favor of the simplicity of a DAC that has its brains hardwired.

Paddy is just a service tech - according to Lance he was never involved in our designs

My next DAC will not have a FPGA, it will have a hardwired brain.

If Halcro were getting into the high-end DAC space I'd hold off on my next DAC purchase until then. A Halcro reference series SACD+DAC would be very appealing to me (assuming it was sensibly priced).

Maybe you should also check the European warehouse, there might be some legacy Halcro gems hiding in there as well...

There sure are ; DM10's DM88's, 38's. We have a great deal of interest in these products, which is nice :). Most are already sold

Even though I already have one of everything, I'll have another one of everything!

Thanks people at Magenta.  My system came in a couple days ago and it is exceptional.  Very good depth and stage presentation. Bass is deeper and the mids are great.  Neighbours will no doubt disagree with my assessment.

Again thank you for this opportunity to own this gem.

regards

Jimmy

I have some good news. We just found some draw face-plates for these.

All lucky owners will be sent one this week.

Excellent Mike, thanks.

To those that are lucky enough to have aquired one, I'm currently chasing two possibilities for finishing the front. The first is to have the faceplate silkscreened with the original print pattern. The second is to have the faceplate covered with a vinyl wrap, with the original print cut out. With the second method you could pre colour the face or polish it, then have your prefered cover placed over it giving your choice of finish and print colour. I'm liking carbon fibre with polished lettering at present.

If anyone has any other ideas, please put them here for all to consider.

Hi Mike , having vinyl wrapped a couple components recently the results can be very good. I bought some cheapish gloss black stuff to wrap my Linn Unidisk and the results were quite acceptable but I would recommend the 3m Dinok based on what I have read.

The vinyl used would have to be of the type that can be used in a CAD cutter/plotter machine used in professional sign making.

New thread idea - Pimp your Halcro EC800. I'm sure Mike might even offer a small token prize for the best entry :)
