justin1503559546 Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 i am looking for an easy way to record dtv on my pc. the best solution i have come across so far is the dpanda. i would just like some feedback before i fork out for it. more info available at dpanda.com.au
DrP Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 It works for SD resolutions (7 and SBS HD is included in this). Currently it splits to a new file at 4Gb max and only does MPA audio, no AC3. The cut to a new file is completely seamless, you can rejoin it with pvastrumento perfectly, no jumps, no glitching. The recording scheduler uses the Windows task scheduler so you can go in and mod the event to say have your PC come out of S3 suspend etc to do the recording. All it does is run the main program with some command line switches. If you try to use the PC while the app is recording, you are likely to cause some glitching in the captured file. Setting the app to high or realtime priority (NT/XP/W2k) seems to take care of that. You can set the app to be in silent mode when recording (ie doesnt decode video or play audio). In this mode is uses nix CPU time. This was with software ver 2.15a, the version available when I had the card to play with. I'm told that a new release is brewing and may appear at the end of this month / next month, but don't hold your breath!
justin1503559546 Posted September 11, 2003 Author Posted September 11, 2003 thank you for your reply. i dont really understand the jargon, but i have just ordered one for $223 do you think it is worth it
Radioactive Man Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 The new version of DigiBox is coming out very soon. I would get a Visionplus card because it is HD compatible and I wouldn't want to get stuck with an SD only card
DrP Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Tough call really. For SD, it worked fine. No doubt, full HD + AC3 support will appear, perhaps with the next release of the software. The VP + digibox will support HD + AC3 and there are several 3rd party tools floating around that let you record (anything, HD, SD, MPA, AC3, just by choosing the right PIDs), even from the cmd line. Go to http://robdvd.radfiles.net to get an idea of what's going on with the VP. Ver 2.15a of the software for the DPANDA/NOVA-t didn't support the BDA (?) driver model like the VP does. This may change with the next release... who can tell. I have a VP and it mostly works. Right now, recording from the ABC with 3rd party apps is useless due to glitching etc. Sometimes the card (or drivers) goes off into never never land for no apparent reason and requires either a boot of the PC or a disable / enable of the device in device manager (XP / W2k). Recording with WinDTV seems to work, unless WinDTV barfs. Right now, I'd say the DPANDA/NOVA-t is more stable than the VP. No doubt this will change as new software becomes available for both.
k3nnis888 Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Hi. I have the Nova-T card and so far its been alright. Its basically the Dpanda card. I think without that internal connector that the dpanda has for Conditional access i think. Anyways 1 problem i have is that it if i use the bundled windvd 4 that is on the CD for the hauppauge i can playback my recorded stuff with audio+video. But if i installed windvd 5 i get video but no audio on my recorded playback. Drp: Any ideas? But if i used windows media player it plays audio+video fine too. Its really weird why windvd 5 don't work for audio. Cheers. Kenn.
DrP Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 I've had weirdness like that with powerdvd XP, ran the file thru pvastrumento (beta version) , then remuxed with tmpgenc and all was happy.
k3nnis888 Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 Hi. Thanks for that. How do you get the remote to work with the nova-T card? Under windows that is. I can only get the volume to work and channel up/down, i can't like select 7,9,10,2,3 by pressing the numerical buttons, any ideas? Cheers. Kenn.
DrP Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 I didn't borrow the remote to fiddle with. Just the card.
k3nnis888 Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 Hi. Oh alright then:P I will need to fiddle around with it more:) Also do you think powerdvd 5 have better video filters or windvd 5? Cheers. Kenn.
