Darkness1503559707 Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Hi, My other half really likes that Big Brother show for some reason beyond me.. Anyway, I saw in the tv guide that TDT gets a lot more BB shows than any of the local ch's do, so she wants to get a set top box.. So does Launceston get this TDT channel ??? Also I have HD Plasma TV so Id like to get a HD box not a SD one.. are the ch's in Launceston Di Deff or only SD ?? Thanks for any info. Cheers.
rochford Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Launceston currently receives ABC and SBS from the Mt Barrow transmission site. Southern Cross, WIN and TDT are all expected to start broadcasting by the end of June. The Juliana Street transmitter currently has ABC, with Southern Cross likely to start up soon. As for HD, no channel in Tasmania has broadcast native high definition signals; both ABC and SBS run upconverted streams (1080i and 576p). There is a remote chance WIN will start HD broadcasts this year (they have commenced on the mainland in some areas). For the Big Brother fan, I'd invest in broadband instead and enjoy the free stream. - Miles.
alanh Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Darkness, These are the channel allocations for your transmitters. It is up to the stations went they install them. Launceston Radio Terminal Juliana Street WEST LAUNCESTON Analog TNT11, TVT62, SBS53, ABNT56 digital TNT60, TVT63, SBS64, ABNT65, TasTV66, Unassigned 67 68 All digital transmitters are 500 W each (directional). The antenna required is band 5 and is mounted horizontally. Existing antennas will be ok if in good condition.
dfp Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 A lot of the launceston area and suburbs receives its signal from Mt Barrow rather then the West Launceston transmitter. ABC Digital is the only channel on air from West Launceston, whilst SBS and ABC are on Mt Barrow in Digital.

Thanks for the replies !
dfp Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Darkness, Good to hear Enjoy the quality of the ABC and SBS services. They are SD Digital TV at their best. I have been tuned into ABC digital since broadcasts begun here and certaintly impressed by the quality of picture and sound I can get. Also not being a big ABC watcher orignally, I have taken a lot more notice of shows on there now.
