Digicruiser Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Who is suffering with the "what to get blues" with Digital phones? I was p*ssed off about a year or two ago when I bought the 6610, thinking it was one of the better phones to buy. After a few weeks, some bugger said the 6610i was to come out soon to replace the standard 6610 and the prices of these went down dramatically. Wanting to use the baseball bat, I wrote a review stating the case and not to buy them because of the ones due to come out. Nok came forward later and offered to change over my phone for free when they sell in Aussie - I have the promises via E-mail from them but the 6610i didn't come out, even though one representative did say they will and told me the specs - I think he pulled my leg... Now we have the 6600! Who just bought the 6600? Guess what? I was just about to buy one but found out in time that the 6620 will be out soon. Double the memory and using a faster chip with extras and looks the same except different colours. The 6600 phone is very new to Aussie and Nok do this to people often where they bring out something they should have in the first place. Both models were developed basically the same time... Sucks doesn't it?!? How would you feel if a new STB box came out and a month or two later, the same looking box came out but with better specs etc.
Groover ! Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Mobile phones are classics. Bought the latest and greatest PDA/PHONE the O2 XDA11 which basically did every thing you wanted except make phone calls ! So after stuffing around for 4 months I gave up and got the Sony Ericsson 900. Youll find that the development behind mobiles is at such a frenetic pace than not even the sales reps know what the company stocks week to week. Samsung and Nokia are classics for this. One thing for sure if we had the development behind Digital STB as the mobile industry has we would all be saying "REMEMBER THE FOOTY WHAT A PIECE OF CR#P THAT THING WAS"
Digicruiser Posted June 9, 2004 Author Posted June 9, 2004 Actually the HP 5550 Pocket PC does have a slot for the Sim card and the Mic at the bottom etc but you can't convert that to a phone I think. You are so right!!! If Sony or Panasonic did the development like you said, we would be in the wow factor now with their STB's, but mobiles sell fast, Digital boxes don't... The furious rate of coming out with newer models all the time just disheartens those who want the better model and finds they have have "second best". Sure many don't care want they have to talk on but the rest of us are always looking out for something better and be able to have that better item for a while before seeing someone even better again coming out - like a top notch CD player back in the late 80's, they still bet the pants off the newer models in features and quality of lesser priced units in the mid nineties and so forth...
Digicruiser Posted June 14, 2004 Author Posted June 14, 2004 3310, hmmm... I'm glad you found one that pleases you after that lot! Also the other problem with most phones except most Nokias, is the inability to swap the covers if something scratched them - I would have bought other brands if only one could get extra covers for them. This would also retain that new look of a bought phone and retain some value if you decide to sell it. The paint jobs on flip phones on some as you know are silver and one little scratch can start to make the phone ugly and irritating for a short while where on a Nokia you simply spend around $20 to get that new look again and of course a better colour... I am waiting now for inbuilt wireless capability, not just Blue-tooth and I think the 6620 won't cut it for features like that. Or shall we all wait and stagnate the market a little and wait for Digital TV models? Hehe - what I hate about the video-live phones etc, one needs a portable nuclear power station to keep it powered past 1-2 days!!!
Santa1503559644 Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Put this in your phone and smoke it!
Digicruiser Posted June 16, 2004 Author Posted June 16, 2004 Holy sh*t, so they weren't lying about the 6610i. It's been so long, they prolly "accidentally" pushed my case file into the bin... Not much better though, still want to get a wifi mobile etc and the abililty to stick in an SD 256 card in for extra games and MMS stuff, MP3 player in a small package. Hmmm thanks for that, veeeerrryyy interesting. Da virus! Didn't think Blue-Tooth protocol could manage an unsolicitated code transfer of some type. Strange one, what next, anti-virus software for bloody phones? Although they can't do much more unless flash code is sent and is able to corrupt the flash memory section and disable the phone! Thanks guys, cheers.
