TP1 Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I saw a new LG STB and this one had a built in 120GB Hard Drive. It was at the Good Guys (in Perth) . The interesting thing was that it was also a High Definition box. I presume it will only record SD, but with a DVI output it has to be the killer product at the moment. I could only rustle up someone who didn't know much about it (where is a salesman when you actually want one!) so I will report back if people are interested .

TP1 Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 Firstly, it was definitely the hard drive with High def and DVI = I couldn't get the price but it appears that someone else has on another thread. Secondly, glenncol, I like your taste in electronics!

How has the price does any one know if they are avaiable in Melb
manc01 Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 If this is true then how about backing it up with a model no. or link to the product...
JosephA Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Do you know if the DVI output is protected? It may only work on those plasma screens with HDCP such as Pioneer and I'm guessing LG. Is that how it works?

Was it this one.... http://us.lge.com/www/upload/modelFile/LST-3410A.pdf If it is......then it should record HD, see the review http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.a...1&page_number=1
Ryan1503559697 Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Thanx for those links dugby very informative and hopefully i/we can see one in the flesh so to speak soon! Cheers Ryan
physwizz Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 This box looks great, but it seems to be only for the US market. I seached LG australia and found nothing on it at all! http://au.lge.com/index.do
ijd Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Loved this quote in the review posted above: "Some companies put a toe in the water with modest offerings — LG has unabashedly jumped in with high-end gear (the company’s mass-market gear is sold here under the Zenith brand)." High-end gear? In the last 2 years I have had an LG fridge that couldn't stop butter from melting; an LG 76cm TV with resolution around VHS; and an LG progressive DVD player that lost its S-Video output (among other problems). *Never* again!
dugby Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 This box looks great, but it seems to be only for the US market. I seached LG australia and found nothing on it at all! http://au.lge.com/index.do Agreed, but given the R&D cost of building the parallel box just for Australia, versus taking a working design and modifying for local requirments...... It would be a safe bet that if that LG box seen at Good Guys is an HD-PVR with 120GB.... then it may be a variation of the LST-3410A. Granted there is a lot differences regarding US-HDTV versus AUS-HDTV, but a smart large global company like LG could do it. TASSO....could you solve the riddle for this thread and ring the GG store and ask for the model number of the LG box......please.
physwizz Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Would the US box detect digital tv? I know it wouldn't pick up the analog, but it may still be able to decode the dtv!
john1503559500 Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Physwizz, Haven't seen it, but if the digital box is being sold in Auz, it would have to work with our variety of DTV. Can you imagine the flak a retailer would get from an unhappy client when the thing failed to produce a picture?
physwizz Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I just found a reference to a version from LG with a bluray dvd recorder as well as a hard disk. http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php?id=1048301630
rsbj Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 C'mon tasso.............you havent been online since the night of your original post. Can't you give us more info. Like: * The location of the Good Guys store so we can ring them * A model number * A picture of it sitting in the store * Anything! Your silence makes me think you were only dreaming and no such product exists in Oz yet..........
dugby Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I rang all 4x GG stores in Perth and all claim not to have any LG HD-STB's.
ritesh Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 OK, I saw a LG HD STB in flesh at the city JB HiFi store in Melbourne..... I read everywhere on the box and there was no mention of the HDD.... The RRP was $699.... I don't remember the model number, but it was something like LST4x01b or similar... (not too sure...) cheers, Ritesh

TP1 Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 I finally have found out a bit more about the LG HDD box. Model No: LST-3410 Looks like the LST-3410A on the US site. High def receiver and recorder 120 GB HDD DVI output Records in High Definition (A first in Australia I think) A handful are on evaluation with dealers around Australia. Possible release in a couple of months IEEE - 1394 interface The rep at the GOOD Guys (Joondalup) did not know much more . Unless they ask funny money for something like this I will be lining up with the crowds to get one. HD recording with DVI ? It doesn't get any better than that.
robo1503559542 Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Has this box 1 or 2 tuners, I think 120gig is to small for HD recording.
TP1 Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 1 tuner I believe. The 120GB gives about 12 hours of High Def recording. In US spec it can also copy and record to D-VHS (the current high def recording medium until the blue laser dvd recorders hit the shelves.)
