Bits of Kenwood.  Base & motor from a KD750, completely stripped and rebuilt.  Platter turned on a lathe from a huge bamboo chopping board. Arm mostly from a KD650 (with a magnesium arm tube) with an added damping trough.  Ortofon VMS20E-mk2, ceramic spacer as the cart is very short, ADC magnesium headshell, teflon silver arm cable.

Did this on Chinese New Year eve...

Main unit waiting to be placed on the shelf

Very heavy platter. The tools came with the platter to manhandle the platter to be placed very carefully on the subplatter / main unit of the table. Sweating bullets to ensure correct alignment before I dropped the platter onto the table.

A bit of leveling

Nearly there...

All done

Wow! That looks amazing!

Nice.   I see you have the 3 arm version of the Acoustand plinth. What tonearms are you going to use?

I have one of Lee's Acoustand plinths on my SP10mk3.

Enjoy,  you will have a lot of fun.

Only part of a turntable today: a heavier, stainless steel counterweight. I thought it wise to order the Denon Body Cap after seeing where it positioned for correct VTF.

Listening right now, Ray Barretto’s ‘The Message’ on Fania label sings as well as ever ✅

We’re all about pushing limits here you see! 😅

Should have a few more sensible mm to play with once the cap arrives for the other end..

After well ova a decade with my beloved TW Acustik AC-3, it has been passed along to a fellow music lover and I am sure it will provide many more decades of sweet music. I am sure I will miss it, so time for reflection.

It has given me a chance to move the SP10mk3 to the right, which gives me a little more room for tonearm maneuverability at the back of the table.  Also I can move my Linn LP12 into the front row main team.  I will now be able to have all 4 tonearms connected to my Accuphase phono.

The A Team for sure. Arguably the best combos from Linn, Pioneer and Technics

Great setup

Come on, which is your favorite?

There must be one if only for sentimental reasons

Favourite is the Pioneer Exclusive P3.    Owned since 2009 - it has never missed a beat, it really is a technical marvel.

As you can see below, the entire chassis and tonearm is isolated from the timber plinth. Starts and stops in a millisecond.

Choice of straight or s shaped arm wands, it really was ahead of its time when released in 1979, and probably still is.

With anything vintage,  some parts may always be an issue.

The better the parts used, the better the design, the longer any piece will last.

My technician was able to make his own speed IC that failed in my old P10.  That is still working perfectly 7 years later in its current home.

In the SP10mk3,  the Technics MN6042 Pitch Synthesizer IC tends to fail ( mine did).  Fidelis Analog makes their own FA6042 Pitch Synthesizer and is a drop-in replacement for the original Technics part, designed for absolute reliability and vastly improved performance.

When one owns classic vintage equipment,  there will always be a way to keep them in perfect working order.

The Pioneer Exclusive P3, Technics SP10mk3 and Linn LP12 are the best products these manufacturers have ever made and will no doubt outlast me.

Cheers

And for whom who can’t afford exclusive p3 or sp10mkiii then the p10 exclusive or the Victor 801 which are 1/2 the price . i had all of them p3, p10 exclusive and technics sp10mkii , mkiii and Victor 801 . You will be surprise how good the exclusive p10 and Victor 801 perform .

Dynavector DV505 and Dynavector DV20X2L have joined the Goldmund Studietto party, in the company of Souther SL-3 Linear Arm and Koetsu Black. Many, many thanks go to Nick @skies2clear for rewiring and rebuilding the DV505 and to Martin @Tweaky for graciously parting with this mechanical masterpiece thus allowing me to fulfil another item of my bucket list. I have drooled over one of these for 40 years.
