The cartridge is a Technics EPC-U205mk3 with a Jico SAS stylus.

One small issue - I need to raise the platter 20mm as the Technics arm is slightly too close to the top of the plinth to insert the cable.

Got to see this beauty up close and personal in Tokyo last Sunday. Not too many units coming into Australia.

I knew that upgrading my Thorens TD 150 with a chunky new walnut plinth and an SME 3009 s2 improved + Garrott P77 was going to be an improvement

But i was so gobsmacked at how amazing it now sounds - it actually sent a shiver down my spine

I am hearing things in my records i've never heard

before and after

Those SME3009 tonearms still hold their own against newer stuff.  My main player uses one like yours.

Well done

Just gave my 1981 Technics DD table with AR Cambridge C77 cartridge to my daughter. She already had my old Musical Fidelity MC2 speakers. Added to a cheapie Yamaha amp and she loves the sound and I have admit it’s not bad either!

and B&O MS150s to seal the deal :) -

it's been quite a journey over the past year ... but i am very happy with the sound that this system puts out

though I am torn between the little marantz 140 pocket rocket - which gives out such a stunning warm and full sound - but the low headroom means it hits the red peak meters pretty easily... vs my ESOTEC SM-7 150wpc beast - which has more headroom than i need but is a tad more clinical...

How loud are you listening!? 75 w p/c on those little fellas

Sounds like you need to get a 250M and then you'll never look back!

yeah depending on the recording - they start to peak at about noon on the preamp volume dial (with 140 turned up full)

that is plenty loud for normal listening and i usually have it at around 10 - 10:30 on the dial.... the SM-7 obviously has bucketloads of headroom by comparison

I love the wood look and those old wood cased Marantz I always had a soft spot for them.

My inexpensive stylus brush crumbled a week back. Just remembered I have this new free soft tooth brush. Seems to work perfectly. And my cartridge will be cavity free.

Strangely the tooth brush is gentler than the stylus brush. I may just cut down the handle.

There's no Jif and a scourer going near that beauty.  What do you use to maintain it looking like that?
