monaro8 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Was bumbling around in my garage and came across this turntable I picked up about 3 years ago...dirty, dusty, filthy condition. Naturally I looked at it as junk and just chucked it onto a shelf where it has been collecting more dust over the years. So yesterday I saw it sitting there...and now I have been getting back into turntables a bit more, I took a closer look at it...checked some info. online and.... HEY blow me down.....! She's a bit of a hotty! Gave the girl a good clean and polish up, lubed the spindle, whacked in a new belt, headshell, re-aligned the belt changer as the belt was rubbing on it making noise, re-attached the hinges which I was planning to keep as spares and had been removed (I forgot I had them ha ha) SANSUI SR-222!!! Cool tonearm, looks a bit like an ACOS Lustre type with the bias setting on the right side. Belt Drive Fully Manual Operation Pretty Good Overall Condition for the age....looks nice I reckon And chucked on an LP and.....NICE SOUND!! Am pleasantly surprised...She's a Beauty! Trash turns into treasure...... {tried to upload pics...not working for some reason??} ***Why won't it let me upload photos...it worked for me the last few times??? AT LAST...IT WORKS...PICS UPLOADED NICE AND EASY THIS TIME.... :bump: Edited January 30, 2014 by monaro8 3

I know this is a nitpick but it's bamboo ply and although it's solid it's not a solid piece of timber And I'm making one for my Rega out of bamboo ply with Ebony edges. Should look sweet going off what the bamboo looks like. Can I ask how you finished it, oil, wax or lacquer
andyr Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I know this is a nitpick but it's bamboo ply and although it's solid it's not a solid piece of timber Fascinating. I guess that poster has never seen a real-live bamboo stem, if he thinks it's "solid"? Regards, Andy

Should look sweet going off what the bamboo looks like. Can I ask how you finished it, oil, wax or lacquer Oh yeah that's a nitpick - yes it's bamboo ply but dense and pretty much inert. Rapping the table even while playing and nothing transfers to the arm/cartridge, but I do have a sense of pain in the knuckle area. And mate I've finished it with a few good coats of Danish oil, the grain looks tremendous close up

I was thinking oil finish as I don't want to close up the ebony as I like it more in a raw look.
WhoRu? Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Hi, Lovely turntable. I just got the 1.1. I'm curious about which cart you are using with it? Cheers Tricky I'm using a Benz Micro Ace SL which I got from Cameron at Krispy as well as the Manely Chinook.
Andy Moore Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Thought it was time to finally post on this great thread instead of just perving on other great TTs. Micro seiki BL-91 table and Fidelity Research FR-54 tonearm...a lovely music making combo. Makes me happy. Cheers, Andy 11
Owen Y Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Thought it was time to finally post on this great thread instead of just perving on other great TTs. Micro seiki BL-91 table and Fidelity Research FR-54 tonearm...a lovely music making combo. Makes me happy. Cheers, Andy A nice piece that FR-54 - although I can't say I've seen one in the flesh. I do have an FR-64 & FR-12 - opposite approaches, heavy & lightwt, 9" and 9.5", but both nicely designed. Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/ 1

Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/ Yes, I like the FR arms also, I have the 14 which is really beautifully made and the earlier FR-24 which I think is even better. In fact these may be the current best tonearm bargain out there, can often pick them up for $500 or less and they still trounce most arms up to 5 times that much.
