Chill3 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 My word that olive wood looks nice as does the whole rig. How is the clamp for getting it tight and then undoing it? It looks a bit smooth and lacking in grip or is that some kind of grippy texture on it? Its just a weight not a clamp And nice TT 1
David.M Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Nice looking tt you have there @@steve u , no doubt does the right job very efficiently 1

Thank you Hergest, really fits in well with the room and the performance is like nothing I have heard before.....some people might say that I don't get out enough..haha. This TT fitted in with the balance of my other gear and has got me glued to the chair. Chill3 was right it is only a weight, a significant weight, but not a clamp.
mlinvpp Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 My humble Garrard 401 + SME 3009 with a knife edge upgrade, but a heavier counter weight is needed for the Nagaoka MP500. it would be nice if I can find a 130g to replace the standard 100g, for now Blu-Tack with 4 nuts are doing the trick. 11

Thanks @rehabitat, I use few layers of MDF (couldn't find HDF), a Makita plunge router, some basic graffiti skills, nothing high tech, but took a lot of time, all fun.

Dr Good Vibe Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Owen the Opus 3 is just what you say it is have played with one for some time now the fit finish is a question when you consider the price the main vertical shaft machined in one piece from Bronze is the answer AndyR have you looked at one in the flesh.

mlinvpp Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks for your suggestion @Citroen, I had a look at them, different from mine, I remember I wrote down the part number somewhere, but if they are still available is another question. never mind for now, it may show up on ebay one day

Good to read, yesterday I realised it might be worth adding some blu-tac to get my counterweight closer to the arm bearing. You might want to look at asymmetrical counterweights, that hang down to lower the centre of gravity of the mass further in line with the stylus and cantilever. Edited November 26, 2014 by warrengday

Vinyl engine is another good place to get turntable info.
andyr Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I'm posting this on @@djb 's behalf ... here is his finished 'SkeletaLinn' with: SME3012 / Grado Reference Master. With Ortofon headshell. Origin Live 'One' / AT440MLa. This is a side shot: a. to show off the SME 3012 - great arm, IMO, but a bugger to fit! SME aficionados will have picked up that I didn't use the sliding SME mount (because it wouldn't fit on the aluminium U-channel used for the 'SkeletaLinn' chassis). So to compensate, it has a compatible Ortofon headshell, which has slots to enable the cart to be aligned. Also, I have not installed SME's cunning VTF adjustor - as djb doesn't need this (as he's not one for changing cartridges. ). So VTF is set at 1.5gm, VTA is set - as is azimuth, using my newly acquired Fozgometer! b. to show the 3-spring construction of the triangular TT - the motor 'pod' is on the far side of the chassis. This is a top shot, to give people a better picture of how the TT is put together: As you can see, the base of the TT is perspex - with, unfortunately, a piece of chipboard flooring underneath it, to fit in with David's hifi rack (long story!). Regards, Andy 5

steve u Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 @@steve u How is the build quality on the Project Steve? It looks flawless in your photos, i'm curious as to how it all is after you've had 2 weeks to drool all over it. Nothing amiss? The Xtension 12 interests me and i just love the look of the Olive wood on your 10. The build quality is very good. The olive wood is a laminate, but that doesn't detract at all. The feet are a bit special with magnetic isolation. The arm on this is simple but very effective and in this design the 10" is the sweet spot. The motor or belt makes a small sound as it picks up speed, but I think that is just a little bit of belt slip as it is totally gone by 15 revs/sec, it reaches 33.3 and just sits there and is dead quiet. The bass is there in spades, pace and rhythm is much better than my previous TT's and those blacks that people talk about are inky black. I had a budget in mind when I bought this TT based on the rest of my system and I hoped that this would deliver performance wise enough for the dollars and achieve the balance that I was looking for. I was ultimately convinced by the advice of someone that knows a heck of a lot about turntable design and construction, that for the dollars, this TT and this brand really over delivered at this price point. And that I would reap better rewards by upgrading to a better cartridge with a turntable like this, than spending more on the TT and less on the cartridge. I'm loving it so much that I have invested in a much better cartridge, even though the one I had was no slouch. That cartridge should arrive this week fingers crossed. Will reveal all in photos as soon as it gets here. 2
Hergest Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Thanks for that, i look forward to seeing whatever cartridge you've chosen.
Hergest Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 A bit of colour for Saturday afternoon. The Model 10 in the study playing (a rather ordinary and disappointingly coloured vinyl ) Friday Music re-issue of Yes's Going For The One. If it wasn't for my UK original being nigh on worn out i wouldn't have bothered. Looks nice though. SME Model 10, Ortofon AS212S tonearm, Phase Tech P3 Alexandrite cartridge. 8
