Hey

I want to include subtitles when I make a DVD from a .rec file on my Mac. Is it possible? I keep searcing the forums and can't find much (either I don't know how to search  or there isn't much demand for this :P).

Any help please.

If not on a Mac I guess a PC will do but...

The Java based app "projectX" can help you demux the subtitle stream. The trick is getting it back into your DVD. I havn't found an easy way outside of DVD Studio Pro. Don;t knwo if you want to spend the big $$$ but it definitely works.

Depends what you call big $$$... This is for Deaf people who have Toppies. What's the process? Is DVD Studio Pro the big cost? Is it easy to do?

Thanks

It is possible to do it with ffmpegX. See http://homepage.mac.com/major4/dvd_sub.html for details.

Edit: Actually, it is now easier than the process they describe in that document.

From the changelog:

Improved AUTHOR tool to add DVD selectable subtitles to an existing MPG file. Load a DVD-compliant MPG file and a text-based subtitle file (.srt, .sub, .ssa, .smi, .rt, .txt, .aqt, .jss, .js) in the first two Browse.. fields, then click AUTHOR. A VIDEO_TS folder will then be authored with the subtitles embedded as fully selectable DVD subtitles by using the Subtitles button in your remote control.
