Today was to have been the day I was going to report on the Pink Floyd Pulse DVD ........but alas after camping overnight at my local Leading Edge and wondering where all the other Floyd fans were and fighting little toddler tykes who were getting Wiggles tickets, who, I might add can be very very rude when they are in a queue......I finally got my rickety old bones up to the counter and asked the 17 year old for my copy.........She said "No"

:P

So I crawled home and went back to bed............

Led Zeppelin you say? :P:P:D

Posted (edited)
keen which led zep dvd imprest you? I've got "unleaded" which is quiet good and "the song remains the same"(not to bad) but if you know of another decent one i'll be interested

cheers

The Led Zeppelin - DVD, I think that's what it's called, you can get it for about $40.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/222840

It's a 2-disc set with 5.5 hours of live concert footage from different shows in the 70's (some from the same concert as 'the songs remain the same') but the special thing here is an amazing 5.1 dts track. Some tracks even being compared with DVD-Audio versions. Although you don't really want to try watching it in one go, it's brilliant. Although just watched it on the plasma and you have to twidle as it's mostly shot in 4x3 except the tracks from Earl's Court '75 (same as songs remain) but they are non-anamorphic. But who really cares it's the music we care about.

It's pretty much the only live Led Zep dvd (or ever going to be) and is the definitive live dvd, accept no substitute, get this and you probably don't need anything else.

Mello did they give you a new release date or is it just a wait and see

For anyone that likes acoustics and pure voice, and a quiet backdrop, I highly recommend the "Music in High Places" series of dvd's.

I have only heard 2 artists from the series, Brian McKnight and Craig David. Basicially for example, the Craig David one is just him and a guitar sitting in a untouched forest. Pure acoustics and voice, no bands, etc.

Only Feb/March.....no actual date :P

I wonder if the old Waters/Glimour "rift" is causing the delay.......as in legal issues....if so it could be a long wait.

Especially seeing Brain Damage do not even want to address the reasons behind the delay usually implies legal issues.

Now I dont want to start any rumours but until they give us the real reasons there will inevitably be plenty of speculation.

It will be worth the wait whichever way ..... :P

Brain Damage says....

We are also aware that Amazon have been showing the release date as 2010. We believe that this is just a default, "dummy" date that Amazon use for items which will be coming out, but where the actual date is unconfirmed/in a state of flux. It has confused or worried a number of you, judging by our bulging email inbox!

Hi,

If you love great and older Aussie Rock, check out "Cotton, Keays and Morris, Live at the Basement" Only recorded in 2003, and includes great Aussie classics like Sweet Sweet Love, Real Thing, Turn up your radio & Hush. Includes DTS audio which is great, video is OK, but probably limited by the venue.

Anyway, as a it is rare to find good Aussie material, this one is worth a look.

I finished setting up my new reciever on saturday, wife and kids were out so the first DVD I played was 'G3 - Live in Tokyo 2005. It Rocks!

http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6974990

I think this is the 3rd in the series,

They always have 'the Satch' and Stevie Vai and another great Guitarist.

The 1st two features Yngwie J Malmsteen, and another blues guy called Johnston, I can't remember his whole name.

If you like this sort of guitar work you will love these. Only thing wrong is they are too SHORT!

Oh and mickj1, I hope you are wearing aftershave (mint sauce) when you take that 2 tooth with ewe.

Cheers

Hi, what is this "Elton John - Dream Ticket" you speak of in an earlier post? Sounds like it would interest me,

Cheers Wags

Trebor,

You have impeccable taste. The G3 concerts sure are a treat for guitar lovers. The Tokyo concert is an excellent one. This has a great picture (16:9), camera work, editing and sound (stereo and DD 5.1). One of my favourites.

If you like this you may like Dream Theater's "Live at Budokan". Same quality video, sound and playing by Petrucci. And it ain't short - DT concerts are 2.5 to 3 hours.

I also have the Joe Satriani's Live in San Francisco - its not bad either but the audience seems to be a bit strange - they appear to be less than impressed with the bassist.

Beware of the G3 Live in Tokyo Audio CD - some of the import copies that found their way into JB Hifi have the Sony XCP protection (aka a root kit virus). Avoid if possible. If you want the Audio version get the local version, which is virus free and cheaper as well.

Wags, here is a link to the Elton John DVDs...this should give you some info and wet your appitite. I like the version of 'tonight' and 'sorry seems to be the hardest word' with the orchestra, wow might play that now my new Rotel 1067 reciever is in place. :P

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=13365

mctoolhead, dunno bout my taste as I have never eaten myself.. (Can we rev Mike up again :P )

As I said I love all types of music. I have the Satch in San Fran, I think the audience is just wacked out on speed or something. handle that bass solo we love that s**t!!( my wife has been in a couple of bands and played left handed bass). I also have a couple of Steve Vai DVDs, the best is 'Live at the Astoria London', yes he is a showman but hasn't he been a guitar teacher since sixteen or something? I know he played with Frank Zappa and the Mothers as well.

I have been into Dreatheater for a while having a few of thier cds, and also the Budokan concert DVD, whew that is busy stuff eh :P have you heard the 'Metropils 2000 - Scenes from New York DVD?

I have just downloaded the 'Four symbols' dvd by Led Zep, so will check that out in a few days as time permits, maybe on Aussie day.(Free day for us K1W1s) If I like it I will go buy it.

I love the double Led Zep that has already been mentioned.

Anyway , gotta go, bedtime stories must be read for our little ones

Cheers, Treb

Here are some of my guitar solo favourites outside of the usual ( and also loved) Led Zep & PF & "EC was here" mold:

-Stanley Jordan: Jumping Jack on One Night with Blue Note

-Brian setzer: Sleepwalk on Live in Japan

-Larry Carlton: Cold Duck Time on Casino lights (also has a great bass player)

-Mike Campbell's solo on Refugee on the Tom petty Sound Stage live DVD

and for some great non-guitar musicianship (especially bass) try

-Bela Fleck & the Flecktones live at the Quick

Cheers

I love Brian Setzer, and so does Japan!!

Thanks for the list of other titles

Gee there are some good titles getting added to this thread.

I have already added a couple to my wish list!

Is the Brian Setzer Orchestra live in Japan a different one?

"I love Brian Setzer, and so does Japan!!".. ditto spearmint.

I have never heard of the other ones - Stanley Jordan, Larry Carlton, Bela Fleck.

It's great to suss out different music. Thats what is so great about visiting friends, and friends of friends, you get to hear all types of differing music tastes. Except bourbon (sic - elixer of life) sometimes makes me forget what I just listened to

They just keep on rolling in on this thread, great isn't it!

Here's another one in my top 10.

Nightwish - From Wishes to Eternity - Live

Good picture (16:9), good camera work, good editing, 5.1 and 2.0 sound. And a female singer in black leather never hurts either.

This is metal meets opera from Finland.

I picked up my copy in Singapore but have seen it in the DVD shop just along from JB in Elizabeth st melb.

Keep the recommendations and suggestions coming.

I have never heard of the other ones - Stanley Jordan, Larry Carlton, Bela Fleck.

Stanley Jordan has a unique style - plays with eight fingers ( and sometimes a thumb or two) simultaneously on the fret board and gets several melodies going at once - his right left brain separation must be amazing (or maybe he's a pianist also!)

Larry Carlton was originally with Steely Dan and then Fourplay Check him out also on the Crossroads EC DVD.

Bela Fleck is probably the worlds best banjo player ( bluegrass, electric and jazz), but on this DVD has a world music band that has to be heard (and seen) to be believed.

cheers

I thought it was about time to buy some new material. So the other day while surfing I came across this DVD of Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather in concert together in Paris July 2001.

I have ordered it with a couple of others and will post my thoughts on it and the others once it arrives.
