Good Lord blue?...

Shouldn't be anything at all - unless of course those pesky manufacturers figured blue looked better than grey pixels lighting up a screen when it should be nothing at all....

Does your audio amplifer do sonic blue as well when nothing is playing?

Maybe it needs calibration....

Or better marketing.

Or something.

I've got to agree with Mojo here ... blue!?!?!

WTF????

What it needs is to be purple!!!

You are right Santa lets look a scenario

Some Digi PJ's have a cost of $800 to replace the bulb after say 3000 hours so over 15,000 hours there is $4000.

A well setup CRT will give you 15,000 and at $3000 to replace the tubes

No-one in their right mind pays the rrp of $800 for their lamps, anyone with half an ounce of noodle will find their replacement globe at almost 1/2 the rrp. I'd like to see someone manage to pay less than rrp for their replacement CRT Tubes!

Im not denying the "ultimately" superiour image of the CRT's but what about the almost yearly convergance calibration thats also required to maintain this wonderful image? I've heard this can cost $1k+ in itself?

As Glenncol said, touching up the convergence (which is "part of the fun" of owning a CRT) can be done by the owner. Callibration need only be done if relocating the machine or replacing the tubes, etc. (Or major changes to the source equipment, if you're really serious).

Getting tubes for less than RRP is not anywhere near as unlikely as you might think, but obviously involves plenty of luck, etc. (Given RRP will obviously have been inlfated; that some people put tubes up for sale for reduced price; and that you may be able to get a cheap "parts" projector with one good tube {of course, this will be the same tube as the one with the least wear in your machine!})...

The big drawbacks for CRT projection aren't as much in the cost, as in the ridiculous size, lack of locational flexibility and "enthusiast operator preferred" nature of the beasts.

You're getting a free Qualia now?

Righto.

Essentially yes, but only as a side benefit of a larger dealer in place of receiving a further discount. So there is still a theoretical cost implied if you will, just not to me personally.

So despite your earlier claim of 'forking out for a Qualia' you're not now and your company is giving it to you after you had indicated to them you would pay for one and they are saying - "No - keep your $40,000 - we want you to have it for free."

Is that your story today?

So what does the Qualia look like in person - after all the Sony 'installs manager' (curious title) has already been to your house;

"I'll be sure and pass your comments on to the Sony Qualia installs manager when I catch up with him at my house this morning.... " (OzHtFan April 1 2005)

One wonders why you are claiming you are still 'getting a free Qualia' when the 'Sony installs manager' has already visisted.

Did he forget to leave it behind on your ceiling when he left?

What a strange little yarn.

Now you are even confusing me with your take on things. I painted the picture as it is and you are now reading all kinds of irrelevence into it....Sony is giving me the projector thanks to the amount of money my company is spending with them. When I say my company, it is mine, I'm not speaking figuratively. So as a I said it was put to them that we would really further appreciate it if they (Sony) could throw a couple of sweeteners into to the deal. They were happy to do this for us and one of which is the Qualia. Also, as I said before I can tell you already what a Qualia looks like in person from the demo I had..

Re the site visit, it shows you how much you know about the install process for this projector- nothing obviously. Sony don't come down with their chosen install contractor, Rutledge and just plonk it on your ceiling not having seen the room they are working with! It is a 38kg unit that requires a load bearing capacity of 300kg to hung and they must take room measurements and determine throw distance to match up the correct lense. They also look at any further requirements you might have in your room, ie a screen or other A/V equipment. They also asked that I have a dedicated circuit run to the projector power point. I not sure of the timeframe now for when they will be back to commence the install, but I'm hoping it's in the next week or so.

As it stands I will be more than happy to post photos of the projector install the moment it happens, heck I'll even post some shots of the install. Then if mojo still thinks I'm some kind of BSer he can come and see it for himself and bag it in person no doubt..

So let me get this straight: First you say;

A) You will 'fork out' for it. (March 7 2005)

 Then; You won't fork out for it.

C) Then; You won't fork out for it - your company will.

D) Then; Your company is your company who will fork out for it (today), which

apparently you were confused about on March 7 when you said you would pay

for it personally.

What a tangled little web you weave.

Name the company.

Curiously - all the information you have provided to date is available in reviews discussion and web sites - not one comment is based on your own unique install; your own observation or your own discussion with the 'Sony installs manager'..

Funny that.

Mojo, go jump man. I do not need to try to prove anything to you buddy. You are the only one doubting me here. I really don't care at all that you don't believe the conversations that I've mentioned are real... What else unique does my install have to have, according you, oh guru Mojo, to make it legit? How hard is it to understand that NO funds will change hands for my projector be it from me or my company and that has come about in the last 2 weeks!!

I'm not about to discuss my company with you on a public form, it so totally none of your business or anyone elses for that matter.

Again like I stated before, I am more than happy to post pics of my install soon as it starts...

Maybe the Mojo-Bot is like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park and if you stay very still and quiet it will lumber away. Replying to it directly just seems to make it regurgitate the same drivel. *sshhhhhh*

There you go. See how did I know people would sticky-beak my webspace...If you were to believe Mojo, I might have set it up that way

Mojo can keep wondering what I do as far as I'm concerned. It's one thing I enjoy about participating in forums, you can tell people as little or as much as you want to about yourself.

Put the HT pic on free hosting now.

Night all :P

Please take the pic down before someone else gets the idea that the way to demonstrate a SOTA projector is in a room with light walls, light ceilings, a blemished screen with lights directly over the image area.

Unbelievable.

Why is it that people with money never seem to get the point of...ohhhhh...never mind.

Typical, I put a pic that was taken for Sony and the contractor to see the physical layout of my room and you take it not as it was intended... Sorry, I don't have an 'in use' shot at the moment. So I have light walls, the room is part of the main upstairs area of the house ajoining a bedroom and not an out of the way HT room. so unfortunately the idea of dark or black walls would be too extreme a contrast due to the location of this setup. Be assured I not so naive to believe it's optimum and one day I will have a dedicated screening room configuration. At the moment it would not make any sense in the houses currently size/layout so it's a compromise...BTW, the screen is going, it's something that has annoyed me for ages with the ripples, etc (it's also the wrong gain).

So let's see a picture of your perfect HT setup, oh guru Mojo!

Guilty as charged. But can I still come ?

PS. How come you changed your wheels?

Mojo seems very quick to offend people based on their equipment (inc. me) and Ive already laid the challenge down to tell us all about his magical system that will most likely be a who's who of products he simply doesnt have. I suppose thats why we havent heard from him in a day or so - he's checking A/V websites for products which have no known flaws, so he can try shut us up...

So in other words - you agree with me; too much light, flawed screen, wrong room dimensions, highly reflective floor and ceiling (I could go on..)

Why incidentally did you need to take a photo when the Sony 'installs manager' has already been to your place...

And I have no need to post pictures of my HT system; build a dedicated Cyber-Shrine to myself, my car or my income.

Posters can make up their mind and agree (as you have done) or disagree with my technical assessment on HT equipment.

The rest is frankly indulgent and utterly irrelevant.
