Best of luck, Dik <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And whats wrong with rocking up in the purple Valiant, the sounds of Lake Geneva ringing out, purple safari suit highlighted against the evening sky ... going inside (the purple velvet jeans drawing the usual wild complements from passers-by) on to the purple shag pile, and sitting down on/in the purple vinyl beanbag to enjoy the splendors of big screen CRT projection! Got a problem with that???
betty boop Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Santa I this poll should tell you one thing - don't bother any more with other options with future polls - just put up PURPLE. Sure to be the choice of the majority no matter what the topic/issue
Digicruiser Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Deep Purple Puberty Purples Purple Rain Hmmm, Purple toothpaste be good! Purple tan lotion, maybe it's about time we change that balck road look for purple!
Digicruiser Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Quote I enjoy the odd movie now and again And what two movies are they?
KT Faith Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Whats your idea of culture? Wearing a silly oversized hat and getting drunk at the trots/races. The hat's not so silly as I sunburn easily. I only get drunk when my namesake wins (he's an expert at running second! KTF
Vermin Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Better be careful what colour options you use in future: "Cadbury, ellipse device, dairy milk, the glass and a half device and THE COLOUR PURPLE are Cadbury Limited trademarks used under licence in New Zealand by Cadbury Confectionery Ltd." All our purple are belong to Cadbury Confectionery Ltd.!

If you want to combine laughter, anger and tears all at once, check out the IP sites (including uspto etc) ... colours, smells, feelings ... there's no limit to what you can own if you're a big enough corporation... ijd-utopia! Cadbury are frequently battling it out on this front, but don't even compete with the likes of McDonalds ... who threaten anyone using the letters Mc in front of anything!

ToeCutter Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 There needs to be a second poll. What is a culture snob? 1 - someone who thinks anything popular is trash? 2 - someone who thinks anything on the ABC must be culture? 3 - someone who will only see a movie if it's at an indie festival 4 - purple

Anything the media tells you is popular (thus, you do/watch/buy it) is likely trash! 2 - most things on the ABC are crap these days! 3 - never been there! (What CRT projector fanatic would watch a flickering kero-powered lamp illuminating some Japanese-Iranian film on a tablecloth???) 4 - well, got me there!
ToeCutter Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Santa my post wasn't directed at you but rather this type of thread where the poster claims that the more 'discerning' viewer prefers the ABC or SBS over a commercial channel. Some of the 'offensive' claims are summarised below. MichaelCPE said: .Generally the commercial channels are targeting the less discerning viewers. These are the people who watch most TV, and many do not so much watch the TV, but have it on all evening as a constant background. This type of viewer is very attractive to advertisers. One result of this is that many more discerning viewers are watching less and less commercial TV. Some of the audience of the ABC (and SBS) is made of these more discerning viewers who watch little or no commercial or Pay TV. ... But the more discerning viewer (many who now only watch the ABC, SBS, and DVDs) will never accept a watermark as good broadcasting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know it's a storm in a tea cup but I find that typically those who refer to themselves are 'cultured' or 'discerning' are the type of people who think that the only good movie is one about a disillusioned writer who retreats to a villa in France to rekindle their creative passion and discovers the most amazing midget barista working in a cafe in the township who is trying to rebuild his life after losing his family to a pack of marauding gypsies. So whenever someone mentions the word 'culture' I find I cringe at the thought of some poncy gits who considers themselves 'intelligentsia' declaring themselves 'cultured' and therefore somehow superior to all others whilst dismissing productions such as The West Wing and Million Dollar Baby as Hollywood trash and an insult to good taste.

There are several categories of "snobs", including: 1-True snobs (bluebloods of the highest order) Often "Old money" Actually do watch more ABC & SBS, for content reasons. 2-Pseudo-snobs (the "Johns & Janettes") Most often "New money" Likely not to watch much TV apart from affecting the armchair sportsman or "wholesome family" look. 3-Reverse-snobs (so anti the real snobs, they become snobbish themselves) Likely to boycott anything requiring thought as a matter of principle. Supporters of category 2 snobs.
ToeCutter Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 So Santa, seeing as you raised the subject. What are your top 5 TV shows and movies at the moment???

I actually get more annoyed with the GWB-White-House-scripted segments in NCIS and the various CSI's. Sheer propaganda ... but still well-produced [iF I turn the colour saturation *way* down for NCIS] and interesting/engaging [for me] entertainment.

ToeCutter Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I'm surprised that NCIS rates a mention from Santa. I've always tagged that as Disney drama relying more on characters such as the silly pommy guy and the clueless glamour girl than any real writing abilities. But then again I like Survivor.... My top TV shows include -The West Wing for the writing, -used to include the Sopranos for the characters (has been a bit off form last few seasons), -Alias and 24 for the heart pounding action on the big screen, -anything with John Safran for the irreverance, -Survivor for the cut throat scheming between 'friends', -Law and Order (the original) when the story is a good one for it's story driven rather than character driven writing, -Lost simply because the colours of Hawaii and the quality of the image looks so good on a 110" screen.
