DrP Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 If someone that has a Foxtel IQ would like to indulge in a little testing, I'd like to see how the unit handles various failure modes with 'series link' recordings. Suppose you have set the box to record a series, it starts recording an episode and then say, the power goes off halfway. Will the IQ record the next occurence of the episode? What about poor reception during the episode (ie, heavy rain etc, you can simulate this by disconnecting the dish during a recording). Does it detect this situation and attempt to record the next occurrence of the episode? This would really need to be done a few ways: lost signal before episode started so the beginning is missing; lost signal during the show, but it came back; lost signal during show and it doesn't come back until after the show has finished. Just curious.

Though I haven't done the test, I am positive the box just isn't capable of that as it stands. It makes no relationship between repeats of shows that I have seen. Even when I clicked series link on Stargate on a "+2" channel, it only timed itself to record the +2 broadcasts. I think (though haven't tested) if I'd done series link on the standard channel it would have given me 2 copies.

Stuff recorded on various channels does not record twice when series linked. It only records the one you set it to and not the +2 channel.

Well it happend to me when we lost the signal due to rain, it recorded correctly, even though we couldnt watch it. It must have used the dual LNB and paired them

If you ALSO click series link for the same program on Fox8, it'll then record the show twice, once on each channel, even though it's the same episode. I just tested that and that's what happened. I believe the TiVo series link was smarter - it found the program you wanted, no matter what channel it was on, and then it made sure it didn't record the same episode twice.
