czzer Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Had a gander at the Hamony 880 site, does the unit and charger lay flat or upright?.I guess its touch screen? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The charger lays flat, and you can use the remote while it is charging It is not a touchscreen, it has buttons next to the LCD same as 6xx, just a bit more stylish(8 buttons instead of the 6xx's 6 buttons)
fire_dude13 Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Maybe fire dude13 could reply to that email he received and give the link of this thread to that UK seller. Once he sees this thread and the current interest plus possible more customers from Australia, they might do something to speed up sales to Australia. I certainly am interested to get one... Cheers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fattchoi, I have sent this for their records: Thankyou once again Andy, There are quite a number of fellow DBA forum members in Australia very interested in the 885. The additional four coloured buttons as opposed to the up/down arrow on the 880 is very appealing, not to mention the power supply compatibilty. For your information here is a link to the current thread on the forum regarding the 880/885. http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...40entry207496 Any news on your system upgrade would be appreciated when available. I am in Australia. I prefer the 885 to the 880 available in the US. Do you send to Australia. General registered post is fine - no courier. Cheers Phil Brown
ldu Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I had a return email from Bluedo re a bulk buy for the 880. They will do a price of US$187.50 (delivered) if we can get a group buy of 10+. Apparently normal price is about US$200 - not a great saving but better than nothing..... Are there ten interested??

Sucks living in Australia for this sort of thing. We are the forgotten country! Then when we do finally get it, it will be a massive ripoff.
czzer Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 What is the 628? I can not find any info about it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is a 659 with the transport buttons moved up to the centre of the remote, replacing some of the menu navigation keys. I wouldn't bother with it as it actually has LESS hard buttons than the 659, and usually costs more. As for the group buy on the 880, I would be in on it, assuming they can ship to us all individually. A package of 10 or more remotes would definately attract customs/duty attention.

As for the on screen guide, it's up to you which button you map that function to...it can be anything you want
Rob10 Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I wish to upgrade to either the 680 or 688 any thoughts on which is the better option with 5 standard components (including Austar)?

I just bought the Harmony 680 works unreal, I run 5 components but with this remote by sets, for instance. one button turns on TV, Amp. DVD player, press another and Pj, Amp and DVD player, another button tuns on TV, STB and Amp. There are three main buttons sets at top, but you can use other menu buttons for individual items. Lets say you are using your TV, Amp and STB then later you wish to play a DVD, with one press it will change over to this mode. Bought mine from Bluedo cost $210 AUD delivered.
glenncol Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I have spoken to IDT and there is nothing on the radar regarding the 885 within the next 60 to 90 days so buggar that let me know guys i am in for a group buy
tHiNg Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Me too - but are we also getting the power converter they offer?
gadgarra Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 For those of us who want the 885, don't you think it's worth waiting to see if we can get an acceptable deal from a UK vendor?
czzer Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I wish to upgrade to either the 680 or 688 any thoughts on which is the better option with 5 standard components (including Austar)? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The ONLY difference is the button layout. A lot of people complain than the buttons on the 688 are too small, and harder to differentiate without looking at the remote. Have a look at the layouts yourself here
czzer Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Me too - but are we also getting the power converter they offer? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think I'll just get the appropriate transformer from Jaycar/DSE. It would be a much neater installation than having a power adapter between the wall socket and the US plug pack, and pretty much the same price.

As for the on screen guide, it's up to you which button you map that function to...it can be anything you want <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Smeggy Smeg, sorry for this comment, but why ask this forum? Send Harmony Tech Support a query and they will most likely fix it for you. I was having a few probs with switching from 'Watch DVD' to 'Watch TV'. The DVD player wasn't switching off (which it was supposed to), nor was the Set top box switching on (which it was supposed to). To fix it, I kept having to press the HELP button and have it manually fix things. Tech Support looked at my account and noticed that the time delay switching between activities was a little quick (why, I have no idea?) and so they slowed it down. They also said to replace my batteries as this might be contributing to my issues. I downloaded their patch, replaced the batteries, and 'Voila!', everything works a treat. The only problem is that their Tech Support are so good at fixing things that it makes asking questions on forums a bit redundant. Hence my initial comment. Good Luck!
Dir Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 For those interested in getting the 885, consider this: By all estimates, the 885 isn't going to be widely available in the UK until at least mid-August. (Assuming what's been written here is true, namely that the 885 isn't going to be released until at least a month after the 880, which makes it early July, and that the release has now been delayed by a month, which makes it August. If you include the latest observation that there's no mention of the 885 for at least the next 60 to 90 days, then mid-August to end of August is reasonable). I'd then estimate at least a week for the UK supplier to get around to processing international orders, and at least a week for them to arrive here. This makes it probably September before we'd see a UK-originated 885 on our doorstep (literally). I would imagine that by then, Harvey Norman will probably have them in stock (which assumes that Australian distributors will start sorting this out soon). Worth thinking about when weighing up the advantages of 220v power supply and the coloured dots. D
Guest EZYHD Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Any idea as to when it would be available in the US?
Dir Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Any idea as to when it would be available in the US? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I tend to check the bluedo website quite often.... Ok, I'm obsessive-compulsive and hit f5(refresh page) every few days. Ok, hours. Alright, MINUTES THEN. SO WHAT. ahem. From forums and websites it appears mid-June is the target for normal stores to get them in. Right now BestBuy has an exclusive with Logitech that prevents anyone else from selling (or shipping) until about the 2nd week of June. Anyone know how to make the earth spin faster? D
