David Williams Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Schapelle Corby? I have no doubt she's innocent....<{POST_SNAPBACK}> A view clearly not shared by the majority of respondents to this poll.
David Williams Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 ... it's just unfortunate that a young life is wasted now because Indonesia doesn't recognise "reasonable doubt" in their legal system. I travel in and out of Indonesia regularly with work. Is all i can think of is.. that could have been me! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Seems Australia has similar problems when it comes to this.... http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Austra...7568309970.html
Tasty Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Interesting reading David, thanks for bring it to our attention.
laurie Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Just as a observation I am really surprised that no one got on to the "Lie Detector Test " stunt, now I have got no idea how good this machine is and if it can be fooled but others swear by it! cheers laurie
Santa1503559644 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 The good ol' "Lie Detector Machine" is a crok-o-shyte. Re: Corby and justice systems - I suggest anyone who hasn't watched last weeks Media Watch should either watch an ABC2 repeat (don't tell me its not repeated 26 times a day for eternity ) or check out the transcript which should be on their website. I don't like any so-called news sites which require registration, so I don't know what the story referenced above was ... was it the case of the "Australian" in Vietnam or wherever? He didn't look like a wierd caged animal, so he didn't get the Corby-treatment from Australia...
David Williams Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 was it the case of the "Australian" in Vietnam or wherever? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No.
betty boop Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 what happens in australia if the police raided your place and found a stash of drugs that your 'friend' happened to have been storing there without your knowledge. Would you be up for posession and have to prove that the drugs were not yours ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> so what does happen in Oz in this case? any legal eagles out there? ps. not that I have a stash in the house to be worried about or should I say not that I know there is a stash in the house to be worried about ! hehehe by the way the case santa you talking about is the vietnamese born australian who is on deathrow in singapore - unlike corby no one seems to be giving a rats about his case.
Trickster Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 You left out the obvious option in that poll:- F*** "Schapelle" Freakin' Corby! I don't give a flying f***, and think that the total domination of the airwaves for this kind of tabloid trash is a monumental embarassment and really shows what a dump this country's become under Howard! I'd have picked that one, since I am sick and f******* tired of the constant inundation of "Schapelle" Freakin' Corby 24/7 ... other people have been arrested (wrongly or rightly) overseas .. why the hell does the entire country have to come to a halt over this goose?!? Just because she looks like a wierd caged animal?!? Because Nein bought her story? Because the ABC is totally clueless on its downward spiral into deluded "relevancy"?!?! And the hysteria is so widespread thanks to the power of the media over your minds, even Johnny "Spin-Tuned" Howard is now offering a choice of top QCs at OUR expense for this two-bit nobody!?!? Santa was right all along, this country's gone to the Dogs under Howard! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Couldnt agree more , David Hicks is rotting in prison in conditions that go against the Geneva convention he hasnt been charged with anything , he has no visits from his family , Howard has done nothing to ensure that an Australian citizens welfare is being looked after, no legal assistance no consular visits nothing , why , the British got all there citizens out and home, When the Bali bombers were given the death sentence Howard said that he would respect laws of another country although we did not have the death sentence here yet because of all the media attention with Corby he now says thats an unjust verdict and we now send over QCs , if it was guy there would be no help and no sympthy <{POST_SNAPBACK}> David Hicks wasn't over there to assist the Taliban with their knitting classes - he was picked up fighting with the enemy. You know, the same people shooting at Australian soldiers and our allies. He is what is commonly called a traitor. It's quite reassuring to know that he is slowly rotting away in some mosquito infested hell-hole - far better than execution imho! All in all, I would have thought that the Howard Government's approach to Hicks has been a very considered and appropriate one. They haven't exactly bent over backwards to assist Corby either, but given the doubt over her circumstances the measured response was probably the correct one. Have a lovely day! :-) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your obviously very well informed so heres a little more information for your consideration, David Hicks converted to the Islamic religion in Adelaide he then went to Japan to train Horses , from there he decided to further his Islamic Studies in Pakistan, he joined the Pakistani Army so that he could stay in Pakistan and Study, from there he went to Afganistan to study with the Taliban who were the Governing Party , for one week each month he was required to undertake border protection duties all unpaid work. After the US declared war the Northern Alliance captured Hicks in a truck doing Border Patrol , the evidence so far indicates that he was unaware of the 911 attack as he was in a very remote area. The Northern alliance handed him over to the US when they arrived, I hope that you have a clearer understanding of what happened. if we deny Justice and Human Rights to anybody what does that make us. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When it comes to the western democracies, "human rights" is not much more than a shibboleth of the overeducated bourgouisie! If people like you actually put your energies into improving our community instead of hand-wringing over some silly ratbag like Hicks we would all be better off. The human rights lobby and your comrades in arms, the civil libertarians have done untold damage to the Australian social fabric in more recent times by focusing on the rights of the scumbag and the deviant over what is best for the community as a whole. The ferals, the crims and traitors like Hicks have "rights" now thanks to you and your ilk so keep on parroting on about their rights while your and my society goes down the gurgler! Hicks' confinement/punishment/slow death is a symbol of what needs to happen to a whole swathe of Australian society fostered and nourished by people with your views over the last two decades. Macquarie Fields is full of people like David Hicks with a contempt for the society that has produced them. Suggest that if we continue on the downward slide to civil disorder on a mass scale (which I hope is not going to be the case), people like me are gonna have no choice but to start shooting at people like them and their allies ie you! Instead of concerning yourselves with Hicks you might want to do something for the little old lady who is too scared to go out of her Housing Trust flat because of the drunken hoons who party in the corridor outside every night until 6 AM. How about the family with three young kids who can't cross the road because unemployed yobs in old commodores doing high speed burnouts all hours of the day and night? Maybe it's the small business owner who doesn’t bother calling the police anymore when feral kids steal goods from his shop, because it's all too hard. The list goes on and on.... Get out of your ivory tower and have a long, hard look at yourself and your values! And by the way, if you're going to take on a patronising tone, at least try to do it with some style rather than using cheap, little factoids that you have gleaned from goodness knows what source!
Lindsay1503559500 Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Macquarie Fields is full of people like David Hicks with a contempt for the society that has produced them. Such an eloquent speech for so early on a Saturday morning. Yes, our society has MUCH to answer for in the way it treats the less fortunate than ourselves. We show little compassion and take little care for them. Little wonder that they turn out like they do! I'm allright Jack!!! You are just not working hard enough. You don't put in the effort to drag yourself out of the gutter. You don't have the sam strength of character as I have to drag yourself up by your bootstraps. If people like you actually put your energies into improving our community instead of hand-wringing over some silly ratbag like Hicks we would all be better off. Frankly, trickster, what have you done to improve our community. Do you emply the down and out, do you employ aboriginals, do you voluntarily do things for the less well of than youself, do you help with soup kitchens and etc. etc. Do you give to our charities such as the Salvos, St Vinnies etc. A mighty fine speech. I'm glad you realise where much of the blame lies as demonstrated by the Macquarie Fields quote above.

xonicjan Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Schapelle got 20yrs. she was "lucky". The Bali 9 will suffer the consequences of that and one, if not more, will die. Indonesian govt has to save face now, especially since some loosers are sending biological stuff to their embassys.
Digicruiser Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 It probably stopped that judge smiling who boasted about not finding anyone innocent in those type of cases, in 10 years or whatever. With the Aussies general labelling of Indonesia Justice system as corrupt, the Judges (many) would be well protected by interested criminal groups. A few had already said (from there) that money speaks. The cells are rat infested and one can easily bribe the guards etc for many things but the other side is, that she isn't safe there either - someone there might take a personal dislike to her and physically hurt her. I wonder what Howard would say and do if we found out that she was injured or sexually assaulted in that Indonesion prison. The reaction would be very negative and more would be done beside sending "powder" to their embassy. I don't think we seen how radical some people can be in such a case - that judge might have to have better protection. God knows what will happen next...
