Police charged Crowe with assault after he allegedly hurled a telephone at a concierge at the luxurious Mercer hotel in SoHo, downtown Manhattan<snip>

While not excusing Crow’s behavior (IMHO he often behaves like a spoilt brat), am I a bleeding heart leftie for believing a possible jail term of between two and eight years is over the top for throwing a phone against a wall.

Even more disturbing was some loud mouthed woman that was tasered not once, but twice for refusing to get out her of vehicle after being picked up for speeding (she originally was told to stop in the vehicle when she tried to get out).

More disturbing again was a five year old child that was handcuffed and led away by three cops for chucking a wobbly at school.

It makes one appreciate where we live where we can get out of our vehicle and speak to our friendly cop without him fearing we are going to pull out a gun.

And you can be the most uncooperative arrogant desk manager safe in the knowledge that any "wobbly" thrown by a guest in the $2000 a night rooms is gonna get you a big fat paycheck from either the media or as a settlement.

And you wonder why Santa thinks Australia's gone to the dogs!

All commercial stations lead the news with ... R. Freakin' Crowe!

Welcome to Planet Howard! :P:P:blink:

PS: Spot the difference between ABC News online and Fox "News" online (news.com.au)... (NB: Anyone catch MW this week?!)

Well, ok ... I suppose it may have bumped chapter 456 of the Schappellllle story off top spot for the night... so something good came of it...

Yep, one would have thought in Aus and over in the UK, not to mention all the Asian countries, the manager would have been falling over him/ herself to help out such a high profile guest. One would have thought the owners would have also had the manager on the carpet the next morning with a "please explain" for such bad publicity.

Its not so much an issue about Russel Crow, but how a person can face 2 to 8 years for throwing a phone against a wall. Crow might get away with it as he can afford the high powered lawyers, but what of the ordinary hotel guest that "lost it".

fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon - the telephone.
It's an offence to have a telephone? I'd say the cells should be a tad cramped, as most of the American population have at least one of the said 'weapons' in their possession.

Ah yes, 2 - 8 years is a bit much but then............. was the telephone exchange still attached to the telephone when Russell threw it ?

Something to consider.

People like Crow are hard to keep happy at the best of times. they think their status requires special attention, strange Mr Crow did not have a mobile phone!!!!

He just needs to be brought down a few notches, like going over to some third world country and look at the dying and starving - he then can use his agro to help get things going to help them.

Next time you throw a tennis ball at someone in a school yard, you might be facing charges for wielding a weapon in the fourth degree!

What a farce, only in America.

All because people can't take resonsibility for there own actions, and the motto that "Sue anyone, for anything, and you will probably win"

Obviously its Little Johny's fault that Russel is a moron. Under Latham he would have been a litle gentleman as Mark would have gone the throwing for him.

It is hard to see where young Russell goes from here, maybe a remake and a new slant on the ' Insider' ?

Who knows, even a remake of ' Escape from Alcatraz ' may be his next billing.

Maybe a remake of one of the old Missionaary movies where they colonise/civilise New Zealand. This would be more appropriate, he could be the chief killed off fighting change, in the last scene....

I see on TV to-night more allegations by a waitress at Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Woolloomooloo when he told her she's in his country[strange since he is from NZ] and other abuses he called her over a cold pie!

Crow is obviously an ******* (AFAIK several months ago he punched a journalist on the nose), I simply question the possible sentence

Once he is convicted, we could swap him for Schappelle

It appears if this happens his visa may not be renewed BUT me's think this is a stunt for his latest movie just watching the sheep pack[media] they fell for it

His defence will be that he was method acting for his upcoming production of the sequel to Romper Stomper.

What is wrong with our bl**dy government? How can a 3 money men have such control of what happens in Aus?

http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s1378484.htm

<snip>Sky TV has been lobbying to take over the ABC's Asia Pacific television service - will they get what they want?

There's been a much lower profile media stoush unfolding in recent weeks, that's at least as important in terms of how Australia is seen in Asia, but unlike Schapelle no one is reporting it.

That's ABC Asia Pacific - the satellite service the ABC broadcasts into Asia which is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

You can't watch it here in Australia but our big media players, Kerry, Rupert and Kerry, know all about it.<snip>

So why was ABC boss Russell Balding being given the opportunity to spruik the ABC's Asia Pacific Television Service?

Well because some of the most powerful media players in Australia have been bagging it behind his back.

They want to take it off the ABC, along with the $18 and a half million dollars a year that Foreign Affairs pays to fund it.<snip>

. Cabinet will decide in the next few weeks whether to renew the ABC's contract, or put it out to tender to accommodate Sky.

There are many important issues here, which we feel should be debated, in the public domain.

Should the government give tax payer dollars to Kerry, Rupert and Kerry, so that they can expand their Sky brand into Asia?

And do we think that Ch 9, Ch 7 and News Limited, on their recent form, are best placed to fulfil the terms of a contract with the government that includes these objectives?<snip>

And so it goes bl**dy on. :P

The point was about the media, not the Russ!

(So, whether or not he'd get into a brawl with Latham, whether or not Lil Johnny would pose with him for cred, or wear some silly shirt advertising his latest movie "in the spirit of patriotism" ... that wasn't the point here! It was what a BB LCD dump Oz is becoming under JWH!)

This is absolutely disgusting. I had not even read about this anywhere. Of course we already know what Johhny will decide on this. Geez, our country is looking sad. :P

That's why I recommend anyone whose brain hasn't atrophied under Howard to remember to watch MW (that is, until the government and its appointees manage to fully gag/remove it!).

Media Watch Health Warning:

JWH/GWB apologists and followers of the "Fox Diet"* may experience adverse symptoms including anger, total disbelief, pathological denial and, in extreme cases, "three monkey syndrome".
