Guest oztarquin Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Someone please help.... I am about to migrate to Australia from UK. Someone mentioned to me that tv's used in London would not tune down far enough to work in Australia. Current tv is Philips 32pw9616 if that helps and is about five years old.
mtv Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 If you can post the specs on the set, we can check against the Australian standards.
gusangora Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Tuning will not be a problem - just buy a Set Top Box, use it to tune digital transmissions and output to the TV.
modul8 Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 If you are moving to a place that has digital reception available, then a Set Top Box will do fine. However it wont work on the Analogue networks. From memory the audio subcarriers used are different. EDIT: Actually you could buy a cheap VCR when you get here and use that like a Set Top Box.
gclark8 Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 FRom memory, this tv is widescreen and has a scart-rgb input, any good SD box with twin scart sockets will give you good service and you can add a vcr to the stb. Our band plan here has 7mHz spacing, the UK has 8mHz.

If all else fails you can use it via a set top box.
Santa1503559644 Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Yeah, the TV should be OK (though magnetics may be a little off). Main problem is likely to be getting an adaptor for the power cord...
BexTech Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Main problem is likely to be getting an adaptor for the power cord... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They sell the adaptors for around £1 in the UK, so that should be no problem.

gclark8 Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 FWIW, the round pin at the bottom is the "earth", in France.
alanh Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 oztarquin, Firstly, get a service manual in the UK, incase it fails here. I would compare the price of freight to the retail price of a similar sized TV here. You can get STBs here with SCART outputs. Click on Geographical Viewers' Forums. Subforums Select your geographic subforum and then open Get the best reception. Which transmitter and which antenna Find out if where you are moving to has DTV being transmitted. An STB will cost as much as a video as a source of signals, but at least you can use an analog signal. AlanH
