BEST1503559813 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Appears to work, not work, purely random. To many drop outs. Anyone else? Tried both b and g. I have laptop and router right next to each other and no network? What the? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
delbz Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Mine works perfectly. I'm using a Netgear WGR614 router.
kenneth1503559512 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Sounds like a case of PEBKAC or faulty hardware. BEST. I think that either your wireless gear is faulty or incorrectly configured.
bacco|007 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 No problems here (using Linksys router with my Centrino laptop) - however two things i've found: * Avoid D-Link equipment like the plague * If you have a Panasonic 2.4Ghz DECT phone find out it it uses the whole spectrum, the panasonic I have uses the whole spectrum and kills any signal in the house when the handset is in use What gear are you using?
JoshH Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 No problems for me running a netgear 802.11g network. Have you checked your configuration?

Check the signal strength of the router and card if the signal is low check the anttenna connection on the router and card making sure they are not loose Try running the router on a different channel usually wireless routers default to channel 6 try running either channel 1 or 2 If you are running WEP encryption at 256bit try dropping back to 128 or 64 bit
bacco|007 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 And to add to this i have 4 Panasonic 143ALB 2.4Ghz DECT pones at home and have no issues using a phone anywhere near my routers of laptops or PC's <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It only appears to be some of the Panasonic range - the 2.4Ghz DECT I had before this one (it was apart of a fax) only caused problems when I setup, a quick channel change on the router fixed that problem. The new phoneset that I have has spread spectrum technology
cisco_kid Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 hmmm , i wonder which one I use !!!!!!!! I love the stuff , plus it pays my bills

I must say they have been more reliable for me than the Netgear or Linksys
bacco|007 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Personal opinion, the D-Link Wireless gear is rubbish. I spent 2 days setting it up only to find that two days later I needed to do it again because it had decided that it didnt like some of the settings. Once I got it going, it worked ok - until I tried to connect my Centrino laptop (Intel ABG Chipset). Refused to connect and when it did dropped out after a short period of time. Guy at work suggested the Linksys, thought I would give it ago - and now love my WRT54G

JoshH Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Personal opinion, the D-Link Wireless gear is rubbish Had some problems with D-Link at work as well. Mostly dropouts and erratic behaviour. No problem with the Netgear stuff though which seems bulletproof for me
betty boop Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I've got a dlink wireless setup at home no probs at all I can think off.
Ted1503559509 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Dlink ok but don't use with other stuff. Netgear can mix with anything. TURNOFF all your wireless stuff - phones, av senders, cams, mice, keyboards then do your wifi experiments. (and be aware of 2.4ghz interference causing devices like microwaves and washing machines) Try to avoid using wifi and use cable. There is becoming increasing activity on the 2.4ghz band nothing is being done, or can be done it looks, to keep things working well for us all and what has been laid down by the ACA is that you/we work it out amongst ourselves. The 5.8ghz band is now being opened up though its filling with 5.8ghz phones. The best angle looks that you use higher powered equipment and more efficient aerials (and mod to work on non standard frequencies). Though this may lead to illegal operations I doubt anyone will come knocking at your door.
zorg1503559539 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 i would concur my Dlink ADSL USB modem drops out constantly all the time..... Will be replacing it very shortly..
thesatelliteguy Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I have a d-Link wireless router for my apple ibook and it works fine for me. Just Plugged it in, detected all my settings and that was it. Satelliteguy
