DavoNogo Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 http://img167.echo.cx/img167/5387/highdefinition24gy.gif but alas, 935KB is too big to have as an avatar here (the forum that i use this as my avatar has no file size limit)
Digicruiser Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Hehe, had a look at it. 20k limit wouldn't even cover 10 frames at that size ... Still I do believe the size limit should be increased just a little. One has to sacrifice alot to get it down to DBA requirements.
captaineos Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 What program do you use for making animated GIF's?
DavoNogo Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 i used Animation Shop that comes with Paintshop Pro (cheap photo editing software.. well cheaper than Photoshop, that's for sure) there are free alternatives, specifically for use on a Linux machine, but for Windows, I've yet to see a decent free one.... but then again, I haven't really looked if you're looking for a commercial program, try Gif-Animator - http://www.gif-animator.com/ Personal Licence is $35US, but there's a free trial
datvman Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I too use Animation Shop - Works quite well. Also, there is nothing wrong with the avatar limit. For poor dial - up people like me, its just right IMHO.
captaineos Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Same here - was just interested in what others used. Paint Shop Pro 7 rules I say, anyone tried PSP 9? Its disgusting so hard to use and all photoshop try-hard. I 'get' PSP7 - its so good but PSP 9 and Photoshop? Forget it they suck!
kenneth1503559512 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 <snip>Photoshop? Forget it they suck! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't say that to any professionals. I find Photoshop easy to use (Even when I started using it in college). PSP is a toy compared to Photoshop and ImageReady.
JoshH Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Photoshop rocks - immensley powerful and pretty simply and easy to use. It can be a bit daunting at first as there is so many options - but once you learn your way around its the ultimate for editing photos.
captaineos Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 "I wouldn't say that to any professionals." I wouldnt either - they are two different beasts. I did a course in Photoshop Elements - thats a great program if you know how to use it PSP7 has many uses
datvman Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I have both Photoshop and PSP. I prefer PSP, but thats becuase I'm not really doing any hardcore graphics. I've done a course in Photoshop, as everyone has said, its great once you learn how to use it.
captaineos Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Could we have animated images in our signatures? I made a cool one I would like to use....
laurie Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I've done a course in Photoshop, as everyone has said, its great once you learn how to use it. Great where do you do it at cheers laurie
JoshH Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Great where do you do it at cheers laurie <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There are quite a lot of courses around for PS - a quick google search turns up more than a handful - and I am pretty sure most TAFE's offer short courses in it as well.
DavoNogo Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 you'll learn a lot more out the photoshop tutorial dvd's than you could hope to imagine from a course.. but then you have to actually demonstrate what you can do rather than flash a certificate around (employers will look at the latter of course)
Digicruiser Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I create the animated gifs in flash 5 developer. The motion is alot smoother and easier to tween etc. Bring in objects from the outside to the viewing area, make things fade, rotate writing and control each objects speed. Flash offers a hell lot more and you have a choice to export it to a FLA movie of course or into other formats like animated gifs. I found Animation workshop too primative for my liking. I use flash quite often when creating web sites and such...

DavoNogo Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 oops i just checked, mine's version 3.11, but there's shouldn't be much difference between the versions.. i guess some people have different needs, as animation shop is all i need, really just a little side note, i've been reading the windvd7 help file, and appaerently you can now save part of a video file as an animated gif (the limit is 30 seconds)
Digicruiser Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 WinDVD 7 hey!?! hmmm thanks for that snippet - that may become very handy Can you choose what frame rate you want or is it up to the user to rid excess frames to cut down the size - I imagine you can control all that... Cheers
DavoNogo Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 this is what the options dialog looks like for the quick clip feature (animated gifs) http://img168.echo.cx/img168/7198/windvd3ve.jpg only works on mpeg/dvd video though
Digicruiser Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Hmmm cool! Thanks for that. You can import movies and sounds etc into Flash but I might have to look at that too Thanks for that.
Scorchie™ Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 From server side, there is a reason why forums don't allow 900kb avatars...think of potentially 100,000 people downloading that image...10GB of data transfer just for an avatar? Multiply that by say 3,000 users having the same thing, and that my friends, is the reason why its not allowed in a nut shell. That's just the data purist in me speaking though

Digicruiser Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Ye but 20k limit compared to 900k is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference. Even just 40K limit would be great, that's double with what we can have now but still small...
Scorchie™ Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I was generalising as to why a lot of forums stick to that limit. No need to burst the 100k bubble though bud so early in the lifecycle...:~(
