Hi guys,

Picked up a mates PS2 who went away o/seas. Hooked it up via S-video and started playing Grand Turismo 2, which came with it but the graphics are appalling. It is not clear at all.

Now tell me if this is the game itself or the cable that I’m using or the s-video connection? I do not have a PS2 --> Component cable and even if I do, both my component inputs have been used up by the DVD player and HDSTB. I do have the option of upconverting through the receiver (Yamaha V-1500) to the TV (KVHR32M31) but not sure if I will gain significant improvement + I prefer direct connections from the source to the TV, especially for the DVD and HDSTB.

So please tell me what is going wrong here. Maybe Im so used to watching 720p and 1080i that I expect the same from the PS2? Hopefully it is only the game. I plan to rent a few more car games this week to test it out. Also, on another note, any of you recommend any folks here in Sydney who 'mod' the PS2?

Thanks

Gran Turismo 2 is a fairly old game, so I wouldn't be surprised if the graphics were as horrible as you say they are... especially on such a nice display

Then again, none of the PS2 games are that great in terms of PQ, especially when you compare them to their XBOX counterpart. It's just a limitation of the PS2, yet so many people bought it because "it's a Sony". Even if you were to get a Component cable for the PS2, there aren't too many games that can utilise it here in Australia. Not to mention it's limited to 480p.

Gran Turismo 4 does have a 1080i mode however, but that requires an NTSC version of the game playing on an NTSC PS2 machine.

Nonetheless, you probably wouldn't want to rent Gran Turismo 4. Why? You'd be so addicted to it, you'd want to play it for more than a week!

Thanks for that, I thought as much.

The PS2 I got is Pal version, so basically no use

I plan to rent it this week, I agree with you, have heard a lot about it. :P

Would you know the best place to pick up a memory card or is there such a thing as an adaptor with which I can use the spare Sony Memory sticks I have lying around the place (32MB, 16MB & 8MB)

Thanks again

there's only one place you should be looking for something like that, and that's EBAY! Look for the powersellers, as they're the ones that generally won't rip you off.

You can save heaps of money going through ebay than a retail channel.
