dkint3 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I bet so http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2010/03/...8203350089.html Apparently, it will be 60s, 70s and 80s.. but no 90s or new rock...
(ツ) Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I'll be looking forward to hearing what 2UW should have become years ago
BamBBBam Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I think this is quite sad really. I used to listen to Vega lots, when Angela Catterns was hosting breakfast it was a great show. Often wish I had recorded the 'songlines' games - I really enjoyed them.
g12345567 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/celeb...r-1225839737555 Vega is finally dead. Today sees the launch of the rebranded 95.3 "Classic Rock 95.3 FM" in Sydney In my oppinion its just a combination of the old song style of WSFM mixed with the harder rock style of Triple M. I wonder how this style of music will be appreciated by the wider Sydney listening audiance? What does everybody here think. Will this survive or become another flop like Vega? Vega 91.5 FM Melbourne will also become "Classic Rock 95.3 FM" running in competition with GOLD 104.3 FM
datvman Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 If DMG can pull it off it will be a success. I've always been a fan of Classic Rock stations, listening to WOMC and KZOK from the states before the restrictions came in early this year and always listen to Rebel when I can. I'm listening to Classic Rock Sydney now and I'm quite impressed. It will be good to get the rock songs from MMM and WS/Gold together which will make a good station. One thing I never liked about MMM is they play lots of crappy new music like Train and Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry
lpy Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) Hmm this is interesting. Melbourne already has Gold 104, now 91.5 will sound even closer to that (and Triple M to an extent). Edited March 12, 2010 by lpy
Digitalworld Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hmm this is interesting. Melbourne already has Gold 104, now 91.5 will sound even closer to that (and Triple M to an extent). Agreed, but a little bit different. Gold is not strictly rock (more rock, pop and "pap") and MMM plays new songs as previous posters have noted. Vega sounded more like a pale imitation of MMM previously. The biggest problem I can see is that Breakfast sounds just as it was on vega and their lack of announcers. They need to get rid of the "comedians" and pay a few announcers. They also need to be more adventurous and play a bit more "heavier" and less predictable rock.

Yeah sounds so predictable just like Vega without the new stuff. They need to show some guts and experiment a bit.
lpy Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 (edited) LOL Classic Rock 915 and 953 are currently playing the exact same playlist. The IDs still say "Classic Rock 91.5" and "Classic Rock 95.3", but the music is the same. Must be on a budget...one music director for both stations Edited March 20, 2010 by lpy
lpy Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Dunno if it deserves its own topic, but as an aside, Nova's "never more than 2 ads in a row" policy has been ditched. Looks like the folks over at DMG are shaking things up The 9+ years of crap they gave other stations for playing "long blocks of ads", and now they're doing the exact same thing LOL. I believe I heard something on the ABC News finance segment a couple of months or so ago about one of the young Murdochs buying out DMG. Might explain some of the sweeping changes going on of late... Yep that's correct. * Lachlan Murdoch takes 50% of DMG * Vega's ratings drop and is replaced with Classic Rock * Nova replaces never more than two ads with up to around eight ads
Moasaica Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) According to a post on MediaSpy made this morning, it appears that just over a year after Vega has been replaced by Classic Rock, it too has been dropped as the name of the station. It is now simply known on air as 95.3 (Sydney) & 91.5 (Melbourne), with the slogan "Classic Songs - Classic Rock", implying that they're becoming a clone of WS-FM/Gold 104, much like how its sister station, Nova, is pretty much a clone of 2DAY/FOX. This was truly evident during its recent Top 1000 countdown, which quite a number of songs on it are not considered to be 'classic rock'. Its song list can be seen here: http://www.classicrockfm.com.au/article_to...ountdown_107663 Edited March 21, 2011 by dtv_campbelltown

Sad really, I hope more 'poppy' songs don't end up on the playlist.
