Just finished watching the news..I'm convinced the media in Australia especially in Sydney are talking up an attack on Sydney! why...so they can jump into their helicopters racing each other to the scene, reporters with dirt over their faces, live feeds so six months down the track they put their hands up for a Logie!! and now the mother of all stuff ups tell the terrorist that people will run to 3 open areas in Sydney...right now my respect for the media has hit rock bottom  they are not happy in just reporting the news but now want to create it..

There is a good side to this laurie.... because I am of "Middle Eastern appearance", I find that I have been getting a seat to myself on the crowded peak hour buses, especially when I'm carrying my bag with my gym gear. :P:P

So who watches Media Watch? I find it usually gets a laugh out of me

Especially sickening was that two ad-break Ten News tease of the people dying in a burning hot-air balloon.

Not your average dumb-arse, JWH-voting, Hanson-admiring, BB-watching, property-miyonaire Aussie (oi oi).... as I've said before - their head would explode if they tried to last a single episode!

Nooooo! That can't be true! Thats not what Johnny told me! I don't believe you ... Ray Martin told me Johnny never lies! I want my Foxtel! I want my Big Brother! And I'm not dumb, I know someone who reads Dan Brown. I'm not dumb - I'm a creationist supporter of "Intelligent Design"! I'm not dumb, I'm a miyonaire! I'm not dumb - I watch 60 Minutes...

Now, Johnny keep protecting me from those nasty thinkers! Those naughty ABC commies terrorists! And protect me from all those hoards of Fat Lebanese Dole-bludging Terrorist Kids and all those evil nasty people who lie and tell us we shouldn't always shout "how high?" when the government tells us to jump...

I find that NOT watching "The News" or either of those "Current Affairs" programs increases your peace of mind a great deal .....

I find "Media Watch" refreshing; at least they'll admit it if they get something wrong.

and yes, the australian media is; see channel 10 "reporter" pushing man off flight of stairs.

Indeed. I give them more credit for being wrong, admitting it and saying sorry, than if they'd been right all along.

Four chinese immigrants trapped in my basement..keep reading this thread to see if they survive!

OK Santa, fair suck of the sauce bottle. I don't admire Hanson's politics or watch BB and I'm not a property millionaire, but I did vote for Howard's party and I do enjoy MediaWatch!

OK, I wasn't going to reply to this topic, but I watched Media Watch last night, one of the only things I watch on ABC2. Anyway, the two teasers they talked about for Ten News were both ones I saw on the nights they were broadcast and I was horrified that they would be saying those sorts of things and turning these situations into a game, especially the hot air balloon story where two people lost their lives. I'm glad Media Watch has drawn attention to it and it wasn't just me thinking it was a little off.

As for the Ten "reporter" John Hill it was interesting seeing this other footage of him including the University footage where he was pushing his way through the security guard. I can vaguely remember another story with him quite some time ago, unfortunately I can't remember who it involved, it was in Sydney and it may have been Mark Latham or the late Tasmanian Premier, Jim Bacon, but this "reporter" followed him everywhere asking the same questions and would not let him escape anywhere, he was blocking doorways and really being full-on in his face. Well, finally after this went on for a while the person (I really can't remember who it was!) lost it as any normal person would and said some stuff, asking the John to go away. Guess which bit made it to Ten news that night, we saw nothing of the initial harrassment, just the final blow-up, it was only after I had seen the full story on another station (I think Southern Cross) that we saw the lead-up to the confrontation. I think Channel Ten should be having words with this reporter because his behaviour has been just like a school yard bully.

That will be 2 cents, thankyou.

EDIT: Just caught Media Watch again, the reporters name was John Hill.

Correct! And they use the "news" stories to push their own agendas whatever they may be at the time. Think back to the first Big Bruvva series. Channel X included it in their news almost every day as one of the biggest things going on in Australia at the time. Mind you only about 2% of people I know were watching it and I work in an industry not known for its educated views. Promotion of the show that cost them millions in US royalties for the idea was justified through all of their other 'nuff nuff' shows. (insert Rove and Bert here just for starters :P )

If you are interested in reading fiction books(sorry, I stopped reading books when the net became more profound), L Ron Hubbard had a great series of books(10) called 'Mission Earth' which is a humorous and sometimes thought provoking sci-fi come drama satirical story focused mainly on the shortcomings of the human race. The representation of the media throughout the story was almost laughable 15 years ago when I first read it, but it is becoming almost a reality now.

IF ITS IN THE MEDIA, IT MUST BE TRUE

Before anyone asks......NO! I am NOT a scientologist :P

Intense reading though, if you can handle ten novels in a row!
