Guest Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 No such luck sheds - theses are all part of my list of dream finds - one day one day.
2sheds Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 and they started early - this is design that survives IMHO Original 1930’s Bang & Olufsen Beolit 39 . Beautiful, Andy. Absolutely beautiful I want one... Please scour the tip, Mr Thiing:D cheers 2sheds
Kamikazi Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Andythiing's post at 8.35- They would look to be JBL with those horns !
2sheds Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 can anyone guess who made these - I think they are worthy in design terms - but I know they will not be too everyones tatse - id own them if they truned up at the dump! Ummm......they'd look better, if you hadn't stacked your dishes on top... cheers 2sheds
2sheds Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 Nakamichi Dragon from 1982-1995 was one of the finest cassette decks ever made. I think it is one of the best looking, too.... cheers 2sheds
2sheds Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 Sonus Amati Anniversario speakers are one of the prettiest speakers from a maker renowned for beautiful speakers. And they apparently sound pretty good, too;) cheers 2sheds
JCR33 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Tivoli Audio, sexy in its own way, who cares if it does not sound as good as me..., at lease I am good looking...
Resonance-2-Rythm Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 They look like the old Technics (trademark horns).. In my opinion, POA8000 circa 1981 Style was way ahead of its time and remains more attractive than most of today's amplifiers
Ken Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Ahhhh Nostalgia, I remember Lecson well, It's a pity they did not sound as good as they looked. Reliability not particularly good either, in fact it was shocking. OT If anybody has AC1, AP1/AP3 and wants a copy of the manual please PM me. Lecson made a range of Power Amps, AP1, AP1X, AP2, AP3, AP3X & AP4, only the AP3X and AP4 could be considered a success. All but the AP4 used the same cylindrical shape. The AP4 was Class A to 70 watts before going A/B to 125 Watts, these looked like an early version of a Levinson or Krell type. In 1979 it was not really what the market wanted or the public expected. Lecson also made Tuners, Speakers & MC Pre Pre Amps. Ken Lecson AC1 preamplifier and Lecson AP1 power amplifier from around 1974. This was a design from England, from Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd. In 1977 they formed Boothroyd Stuart, better known as Meridian Audio. Very sexy, indeed. cheers 2sheds
danter Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I know that this has probably appeared on the Tantalising Turntables thread, but this should be given a run... Heres a bit of interest from the designers son, Michael Gammon, found when seeking the pic... My father designed the Hydraulic Reference turntable in 1964. Prior to filming of A Clockwork Orange, the late Stanley Kubrick visited my father at his Borehamwood factory and asked him if he could purchase a Hydraulic Reference turntable for the film. My father gave it to him for free. The turntable can be seen in Alex's room and at the end of the film. (When the Minister surprised Alex by playing the 9th). In 1973 Transcriptors was relocated to Ireland, my father issued John A Michell a license to produce the table under the Michell logo. Michell was to have paid my father for each turntable he made. Up to this day, he has never paid a thing. An interesting note is that the turntable that was used in the film went missing. At the beginning of 2002 I was in contact with the WB film studio regarding using a photo from ACO. I told them about when Stanley Kubrick came to the factory and asked for one of our turntables. I also said that a picture would look nice on the web site as part of our company’s history. They turned around, said no, and hung up on me. My father gave a turntable to the Museum of Modern Art in NY during the early seventies as a gift. It is also in various museums through out the world. It is not on display at the moment, as they are expanding, but hopefully will be back on display in 2003. Gotta love Warner Bros - fair swap of a pic for a TT?

2sheds Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 Schroeder Reference tonearm. These are hand made by one man, Frank Schroeder. Waiting times were over 2 years. They now are virtually impossible to get, as Frank is apparently in poor health. Get well, Frank cheers 2sheds
