Is it just me or do all DVD players with a zoom feature do it completely wrong?

They all seem to have this 2x, 4x, 8x, 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x crap which is completely impractical, butchers the picture quality, crops picture off the top and bottom when it should only be removing the sides, and renders 2.35:1 DVD's unwatchable on 4:3 sets.

If someone can tell me of a DVD player that has a nice aspect ratio control on it I will be extremely happy.

That is all.

Thank you.

This zensonic DVD player can zoom in .1 increments.

Anybody knows of any other DVD players that can do this?

That looks like a nice DVD player, only thing is it's out of my price range.

I found the Samsung range of DVD players have an "EZ View" feature which apparently enables full control of the aspect ratio, only thing is NONE of them have analogue 5.1 out so they're all useless to me

If anyone knows of a good ~$130 DVD player with proper aspect ratio control could you let me know?

I was also looking at Toshiba, they claim "multi step zoom" but don't explain how it works, whether it just zooms in on the pixels or just crops image off the sides.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks
